About EcoArt Festival

The EcoArt Festival in Calatafimi-Segesta, in the Trapani area, is an event that transforms waste materials into works of art. Born in 2023 as part of the European Re-Né project, the event brings together artists from Sicily and across Italy to explore themes of creative recycling, the circular economy, and environmental respect, featuring exhibitions, performances, and workshops that engage with the archaeological landscape of Segesta.

A festival that breathes new life into waste

The EcoArt Festival is a celebration of art and environmental sustainability held in Calatafimi-Segesta, a town in the province of Trapani, in the heart of western Sicily. The core idea driving the festival is simple yet powerful: taking items destined for the landfill—textiles, plastic, aluminum, cardboard, glass—and transforming them into artworks that tell stories of the environment, community, and sustainable development.

From the European Re-Né project to local roots

The festival was established in 2023 within the Re-Né project, funded by the European Union as part of the Italy-Tunisia cross-border cooperation program. Promoted by the Municipality of Calatafimi-Segesta, the EcoArt Festival has firmly rooted itself in the area, becoming a highly anticipated annual event. It is supported by the ReNe Circular Brand cooperative, which provides recycled textile materials sourced from the municipal Reuse Center.

Between the village and the Segesta archaeological site

The event takes place across several locations in the town: the Municipal Library Conference Hall in Piazza Plebiscito hosts inaugurations, performances, and award ceremonies, while the Reuse Center in the Affacciatura district hosts creative workshops. In recent editions, the festival has extended its exhibition route to the Segesta Archaeological Park, where installations interact with the Doric temples and one of Sicily's most evocative landscapes.

Art, workshops, and civic engagement

  • Exhibitions and installations created from recycled materials
  • Artistic performances and live shows
  • Educational workshops for young people, students, and families on creative recycling
  • Public discussions on sustainability and the circular economy

Edition after edition, the works accumulate into a permanent exhibition route that grows year by year, making the EcoArt Festival not just an event, but a widespread artistic heritage for Calatafimi-Segesta and the entire province of Trapani.
