Between December 8th, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, and January 6th, the Epiphany, Castellammare del Golfo dons its festive attire. The municipal Christmas program, organized by the Tourism Department, brings the historic center of this seaside villageโone of the most picturesque in the province of Trapani, Sicilyโto life for nearly a month. The lighting of the Christmas tree and the illuminations, traditionally held on December 8th around 6 PM, mark the start of the celebrations in an atmosphere of light, music, and community.
The heart of the event is the Christmas market, set up in the historic center between Corso Bartolomeo Mattarella and Corso Garibaldi. The wooden stalls, generally open every weekend from Friday to Sunday in the evenings, welcome visitors and curious onlookers with gift ideas, local products, and seasonal delicacies crafted by local artisans and producers. Strolling through the stalls, surrounded by the scent of Christmas sweets and twinkling lights, is one of the most beloved winter pleasures in Castellammare.
The festive calendar offers a rich program of events for all ages:
These initiatives highlight local popular traditions and create opportunities for meeting and sharing, involving associations, committees, and local organizations.
New Year's Eve is celebrated outdoors, with music and DJs in the square to welcome the new year together. The celebrations continue until the Epiphany, when the lights, nativity scenes, and exhibitions bring the long festive period to a close.
What makes Christmas in Castellammare del Golfo special is the unique setting of its seaside village, nestled between the port, the Arab-Norman castle, and the alleys of the historic center. During this period, the province of Trapani reveals an intimate and authentic side of Western Sicily, where Christmas tradition blends with the hospitality and flavors of the territory.
The Christmas program traditionally runs from December 8th (Immaculate Conception) to January 6th (Epiphany). The markets are mostly set up on weekends, from Friday to Sunday, in the evenings.
