Lucignano celebrates the prized spring truffle of the Valdichiana every weekend in March
In the heart of the Arezzo Valdichiana, the medieval village of Lucignano (Arezzo province, Tuscany) dedicates an entire gastronomic event to the Marzuolo truffle, also known as the 'bianchetto'. This spring variety is prized for its purplish flesh and a penetrating, persistent, and slightly spicy aroma. The Marzuolo Truffle Supply Chain Festival returns every March, when this product reaches full maturity in the woods of the Arezzo valleys.
The event takes place over the weekends of March, from Friday to Sunday, at the food stand set up at the Municipal Sports Field in Lucignano. A heated marquee welcomes visitors for truffle-based dinners. Each evening features a menu that pairs the Marzuolo truffle with traditional Arezzo country recipes: from bruschetta and homemade pasta to classic meat dishes.
One of the most characteristic events is the truffle hunting competition with dogs, organized by the Arezzo Valleys Truffle Hunters Association. This morning event showcases the deep bond between the hunters, their dogs, and the land, followed by a festival lunch. It is a unique opportunity to discover the ancient and precious craft of the truffle hunter and to understand the meaning of the 'supply chain' that gives the festival its name.
The festival is promoted by USD Lucignano in collaboration with the Arezzo Valleys Truffle Hunters Association, under the patronage of the Municipality of Lucignano. Proceeds support the local sports club, in the true spirit of community celebration. For those visiting the Valdichiana, it is also the perfect time to explore one of Tuscany's most charming villages, famous for its elliptical urban layout and the 'Tree of Life' housed in the Municipal Museum.
The thirteenth edition of the festival spanned four weekends in March 2026: March 6-8, 13-15, 20-22, and 27-29. Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the Municipal Sports Field stand in Lucignano offered dinners featuring Marzuolo truffle and Arezzo culinary specialties.
The highlight was on Sunday, March 15th, at 8:00 AM: the truffle dog competition organized by the Arezzo Valleys Truffle Hunters Association, followed by the festival lunch.
