About Marzuolo Truffle Festival

Throughout the month of March, the village of Lucignano in the province of Arezzo celebrates the Marzuolo truffle with its most anticipated festival. Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the Municipal Sports Field, you can enjoy specialties featuring this prized spring truffle alongside classic dishes from the Arezzo tradition. A food and wine event that blends the passion of local truffle hunters with the conviviality of a true village feast in the heart of the Tuscan Valdichiana.

The Marzuolo truffle takes center stage in Lucignano

In the heart of the Arezzo Valdichiana, the medieval village of Lucignano (Arezzo province, Tuscany) dedicates an entire gastronomic event to the Marzuolo truffle, also known as the 'bianchetto'. This spring variety is prized for its purplish flesh and a penetrating, persistent, and slightly spicy aroma. The Marzuolo Truffle Supply Chain Festival returns every March, when this product reaches full maturity in the woods of the Arezzo valleys.

A festival lasting all of March

The event takes place over the weekends of March, from Friday to Sunday, at the food stand set up at the Municipal Sports Field in Lucignano. A heated marquee welcomes visitors for truffle-based dinners. Each evening features a menu that pairs the Marzuolo truffle with traditional Arezzo country recipes: from bruschetta and homemade pasta to classic meat dishes.

The truffle dog competition

One of the most characteristic events is the truffle hunting competition with dogs, organized by the Arezzo Valleys Truffle Hunters Association. This morning event showcases the deep bond between the hunters, their dogs, and the land, followed by a festival lunch. It is a unique opportunity to discover the ancient and precious craft of the truffle hunter and to understand the meaning of the 'supply chain' that gives the festival its name.

Who organizes it

The festival is promoted by USD Lucignano in collaboration with the Arezzo Valleys Truffle Hunters Association, under the patronage of the Municipality of Lucignano. Proceeds support the local sports club, in the true spirit of community celebration. For those visiting the Valdichiana, it is also the perfect time to explore one of Tuscany's most charming villages, famous for its elliptical urban layout and the 'Tree of Life' housed in the Municipal Museum.

Why it's worth it

  • Fresh Marzuolo truffle from the Arezzo valleys, more affordable than the prized autumn white truffle.
  • Traditional Arezzo cuisine served in a heated marquee.
  • The spectacular truffle dog competition, a one-of-a-kind event.
  • A medieval village among the most beautiful in the Valdichiana to visit before or after dinner.
