Two autumn weekends between Castelmuzio and Trequanda to discover the new extra virgin olive oil of the Crete Senesi
The Trequanda New Olive Oil Festival is the autumn event that, every October, fills the villages of the Municipality of Trequanda with scents and flavors, right in the heart of the Crete Senesi, in the province of Siena, just a stone's throw from the Val d'Orcia. The absolute star is the new extra virgin olive oil, the flagship product of this corner of Tuscany, celebrated at the most magical moment of its production: the pressing of the freshly harvested olives.
The event is traditionally spread over two weekends in October. The first takes place in the small and charming village of Castelmuzio, a hamlet of Trequanda overlooking the Sienese hills, featuring visits to the olive mill, guided tastings, and a dinner featuring the new oil. The second weekend brings the historic center of Trequanda to life with Pro Loco stalls, exhibitors, and musical entertainment. It is the perfect opportunity to discover two authentic villages, far from the main tourist flows, during the season when the Tuscan countryside is dressed in autumn colors.
In a landscape shaped by ancient olive trees, vineyards, and clay hills, olive growing has been part of the identity of Trequanda and its villages for centuries. The New Olive Oil Festival was created to promote this tradition and guide visitors in discovering a product of excellence, told by those who cultivate and produce it. In past editions, the festival has also hosted guided oil evaluations, botanical painting workshops, sculpture exhibitions, and musical moments, confirming itself as an event that combines gastronomy, culture, and conviviality.
Participating in the New Olive Oil Festival means immersing yourself in the truest Tuscany, that of small towns and genuine flavors. Between a tasting and a walk through the medieval alleys of Castelmuzio and Trequanda, the event is the ideal occasion for an autumn weekend dedicated to good food and tradition, in the heart of the Crete Senesi.
The 2026 edition of the Trequanda New Olive Oil Festival confirms the autumn appointment in the Municipality of Trequanda, in the heart of the Crete Senesi. The event takes place as usual over two weekends in October: the first in the village of Castelmuzio and the second, around October 17-18, 2026, in the historic center of Trequanda. For 2026, new oil tastings, visits to the mill, the local producer market, and food stalls managed by the Pro Loco are expected. During the festival days, the Nature Train (Treno Natura) from Siena towards the Val d'Orcia is generally active. The detailed program, with times and appointments, will be published by the organizers in the weeks preceding the event.
By car: Trequanda can be reached via the SS326 and the provincial roads that cross the Crete Senesi; it is about 45 km from Siena. Castelmuzio is located just a few kilometers from the municipal seat.
By train: the reference station is Siena; during the festival days, the charming Nature Train (Treno Natura) is often active on the Val d'Orcia line. From Siena, you can continue by bus or car.
Admission to the event is free. Tastings, menus, and purchases at the stalls are subject to payment.
We recommend comfortable clothing for walking in the villages and checking the updated program and times on the Municipality and Pro Loco of Trequanda channels before departure.
