The great sea festival in Manfredonia
Some events capture the essence of a city better than any guidebook: Mangiamare is one of them. Every year, the festival brings the scent of freshly caught fish and the lively buzz of a crowded square to Largo Diomede, in the center of Manfredonia. It is the city's great celebration of the sea, a culinary event that blends taste, music, culture, and community to pay tribute to the maritime identity of the Gulf.
The choice of Largo Diomede is no coincidence: overlooking the harbor, this space becomes a natural stage for a few days for the ancient tradition of the Gargano fishermen who head out to sea and return with their catch. Here, the public can experience the bond between the community and the Adriatic up close, amidst nets, boats, and the flavors they provide.
The absolute star is the zero-mile seafood. At the stalls, you can savor traditional recipes prepared with the day's catch brought directly to the square by local fishing boats. Fried fish, seafood pasta, and humble Gargano specialties: it is a journey of taste that highlights the short supply chain and the work of Manfredonia's maritime industry.
Mangiamare is not just about food. The program alternates live music, performances, workshops, visits dedicated to maritime heritage, and social and cultural initiatives. Organized by the Arci Viceversa association, the festival has a strong participatory and inclusive spirit, with activities designed for families and children as well.
The event is part of the rich summer program of the Manfredonia Festival, which brings the city (Province of Foggia, Puglia) to life with widespread events featuring music, theater, dance, and gastronomy. In this context, Mangiamare represents the moment when the city tells its story through its most authentic element: the sea.
The 2026 edition of Mangiamare is scheduled for August 21 and 22 at Largo Diomede, in Manfredonia, as part of the Manfredonia Festival 2026 program. The festival confirms its format: two days of seafood gastronomy, with fresh catch brought to the square by the local fishing fleet, traditional cuisine, live music, and social and cultural initiatives curated by Arci Viceversa.
The detailed program, including evening events and stall offerings, will be announced by the organizers closer to the event.
