About Mangiaa Brigasc

In Upega, a hamlet of Briga Alta in the upper Tanaro Valley (Province of Cuneo, Piedmont), the Mangiaa Brigasc is a roving tasting event dedicated to traditional Brigasc cuisine. One evening in August, starting at 7:00 PM, the village streets and its famous 'stone skyscrapers' come alive with long tables, mountain aromas, and traditional costumes: guests walk from course to course, rediscovering the flavors of an ancient alpine border community. Organized by Pro Loco Upega.

A roving dinner in the heart of the Brigasc lands

The Mangiaa Brigasc is one of the most distinctive gastronomic events of the summer in Upega, a small hamlet in the municipality of Briga Alta, in the upper Tanaro Valley, in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont. The event offers a roving tasting of traditional Brigasc cuisine, served along the village streets: guests move from course to course, discovering a different traditional alpine dish at every stop.

Stone skyscrapers and traditional costumes

The setting is the unmistakable village of Upega, with its tall, multi-story stone houses—the so-called stone skyscrapers—clustered together along the narrow alleys. During the evening, Pro Loco volunteers and residents wear traditional historical Brigasc costumes, reviving the atmosphere of the past and connecting the food to the memory of an alpine community with a unique language and culture, straddling Piedmont, Liguria, and the ancient territory of Briga.

Brigasc cuisine

The common thread of the evening is the Brigasc table, rooted in simple, hearty recipes born from mountain life: handmade pasta, potato-based dishes, alpine cheeses, meats, and traditional peasant preparations from the upper Tanaro Valley. The roving format allows guests to sample multiple courses while moving between the various tasting stations set up throughout the village.

How it works

  • The tasting usually begins at 7:00 PM;
  • spots are limited and by reservation only (approximately 180 covers), with indoor seating available in case of bad weather and a buffet-style service;
  • it is necessary to book by the date specified by the Pro Loco using the contact details provided each year.

A summer of events in Upega

The Mangiaa Brigasc is part of a rich summer calendar curated by Pro Loco Upega, which enlivens the village throughout the season with exhibitions, nature hikes, cultural meetings, and other gastronomic events, in collaboration with the Municipality of Briga Alta and the Unione Montana Alta Val Tanaro. For those visiting this lesser-known corner of Piedmont, it is the ideal opportunity to combine fine dining, nature, and tradition.
