Mangia e Cammina is the event where the Pro Loco of San Carlo Canavese invites residents and visitors to explore the local area on foot. The formula is simple and well-loved: a walk through the village hamlets along old paths that wind between farmsteads, small churches, and pockets of nature, punctuated by food and wine stops to enjoy local cuisine. It is a slow and convivial way to get to know San Carlo Canavese, a small town in the Metropolitan City of Turin nestled in the Canavese landscape.

The route between Parco delle Vaude and the Cappelle di San Carlo

The trail crosses the Parco delle Vaude, a natural area on the morainic plateau, and touches the Cappelle di San Carlo, ancient places of worship scattered throughout the countryside around the village. Stops featured in past editions include the chapels of San Rocco, San Giorgio, Sant'Apollonia, Santa Maria Maddalena, and the church of Santa Maria di Spinerano, ending at the square of the church of San Carlo Borromeo. The walk is more than just a hike: every stop tells a piece of the rural and devotional history of the area, reflecting the spirit of a community that has always lived in close contact with its land.

The gourmet stops

The delicious heart of the event lies in the food stops distributed along the route. In previous editions, the first course was served at the La Piè hamlet, the second near Santa Maria di Spinerano, while dessert and coffee wrapped up the day in the square of the church of San Carlo Borromeo. The dishes offered belong to the Piedmontese culinary tradition, highlighting local products and the hospitality of the Pro Loco.

An event for the whole family

Mangia e Cammina is designed to be accessible to everyone, including families with children. The walk takes place on country paths suitable for those accustomed to walking, with reduced rates for children. It is a perfect opportunity to spend a Sunday outdoors in the greenery of Canavese, combining exercise, discovery of local heritage, and dining in good company.

When it takes place

The event is traditionally held between spring and early summer, in May or June. For the 2026 edition, the Pro Loco of San Carlo Canavese has confirmed the event; the exact date and detailed program will be announced on the association's official channels.
