The Gargano piano festival between Siponto and the Swabian Castle
Established in 2025, Manfredonia Classica is a piano festival that every July transforms some of the most fascinating spots in Manfredonia, in the province of Foggia, into open-air concert halls. The concept is simple yet powerful: taking the great piano repertoire out of traditional theaters and into the Paleochristian ruins of the Siponto Archaeological Park and the walls of the Swabian-Angevin-Aragonese Castle, creating a dialogue between music and the historical and archaeological heritage of the Gulf of Manfredonia.
The festival is promoted by the Ars Musica Apuliæ association as part of the broader Gargano State of Music project, conceived by local pianist Osvaldo Fatone alongside his colleagues Giorgio Trione Bartoli and Angelo Nasuto, all of whom are associated with the Umberto Giordano Conservatory of Foggia. The stated goal is to promote musical culture through concerts, educational activities, and artistic projects, showcasing local talent while building a bridge between the Gargano area and contemporary musical excellence.
The heart of the festival lies in the evening piano recitals at the Siponto Archaeological Park, featuring renowned performers and piano professors playing works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Brahms, Liszt, Tchaikovsky, and Prokofiev. The festival culminates in a grand symphonic concert at the Castle, the highlight of the program, where the intimate nature of the piano meets the power of a full orchestra.
Manfredonia Classica is a key part of the Apulian city's rich summer cultural scene and represents an unmissable event for classical music lovers vacationing in Puglia.
The Manfredonia Classica '26 festival returns to Manfredonia from July 10 to 16, 2026, with four events. The first three, scheduled for July 10, 11, and 12, will be held in the evocative Siponto Archaeological Park; the main novelty of this edition is the closing concert on July 16 in the setting of the Swabian-Angevin-Aragonese Castle. The initiative is promoted by the Ars Musica Apuliæ association under the artistic direction of Maestro Osvaldo Fatone, a piano professor at the Umberto Giordano Conservatory of Foggia.
Three evening piano recitals by piano professors Carlo Angione, Giulio De Padova, and Ilaria Loatelli. The program includes music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, Fryderyk Chopin, Johannes Brahms, Franz Liszt, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, and Sergei Prokofiev.
Closing symphonic concert with the Umberto Giordano Conservatory Symphony Orchestra. After an initial orchestral segment, the orchestra will accompany Maestro Pasquale Iannone in a performance of the famous Piano Concerto No. 2 by Sergei Rachmaninoff. The program also includes Romeo and Juliet by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
Recitals are held at the Siponto Archaeological Park, along the SS89 road just a few kilometers from the center of Manfredonia (FG); the final concert takes place at the Swabian-Angevin-Aragonese Castle, in the heart of the city overlooking the harbor.
By car: take the Foggia exit on the A14 motorway, then follow the SS89 towards Manfredonia. By train: Foggia station, connected to Manfredonia by local bus. Nearest airport: Bari-Palese, approximately an hour and a half away.
