The patronal feast of the Macellai hamlet in Pocapaglia, in the heart of the Roero region
The Macellai Festival is the patronal feast of the small hamlet of Macellai in Pocapaglia, a municipality in the province of Cuneo nestled in the hills of the Roero region, in Piedmont. For many years, the Acli Circle of Macellai has organized these festivities in honor of the Blessed Virgin of Good Counsel, transforming the hamlet's sports field into a meeting point for the entire community for a few days. It is one of those authentic festivals, far from the major tourist circuits, where conviviality and a sense of belonging to the village remain the true guiding themes.
The program unfolds over a long weekend, with a special focus on Piedmontese cuisine. The evenings revolve around a food stand offering the most beloved traditional dishes: the non-stop pizza on the opening night, Piedmontese street food with vegetarian options always available, grilled meats, and agnolotti, culminating in the famous Tarcisio's porchetta that closes the festivities. There is also a bar service, with the unmissable Mojito Parties accompanying the evenings.
Every evening, the festival lights up with music and entertainment. Over the years, local bands and ensembles have taken the stage, alongside DJ sets and moments of folk dance, including the characteristic Occitan dances that recall the Alpine and Provenรงal roots of this part of the Cuneo area. Sunday retains its most solemn moment with Holy Mass in honor of the patron saint, followed by an aperitif offered by the Circle, balancing religious tradition with village celebration.
The Macellai Festival is also designed for children: throughout the event, a funfair is set up with various attractions, while the charity stall supports parish activities. This is the hallmark of the best Piedmontese festivals: a popular, accessible, and free-entry event where eating well, dancing, and gathering becomes the simplest way to experience community life.
Pocapaglia is located in an area of great landscape value, among the vineyard-covered hills of the Roero, an area renowned for great Piedmontese wines and not far from Bra and Alba. Participating in the Macellai Festival also means discovering a lesser-known corner of the Cuneo territory, made of hamlets, rural traditions, and a gastronomy that is an integral part of the local identity.
The Macellai Festival returns in 2026 from Friday, June 26 to Monday, June 29, at the sports field of the Macellai hamlet in Pocapaglia. The dates are included in the official calendar of events approved by the Municipality's Council of Villages and Associations.
As per tradition, a program spanning four evenings is expected, featuring a food stand with Piedmontese cuisine, live music, Occitan dances, a funfair for families, and Holy Mass in honor of the Blessed Virgin of Good Counsel. The detailed program, including times and guests, will be published by the Acli Circle of Macellai closer to the event.
The festival is held at the Macellai hamlet sports field, in Pocapaglia (CN), in the Roero region.
By car: Pocapaglia is easily reachable from Bra (a few kilometers away) and from the reference motorway exit in the Cuneo area. By train: the most convenient station is Bra, on the Cavallermaggiore-Bra-Alba line, from where you can continue by car towards the hamlet.
Entry to the festival is free. Food and drinks at the stands and bar are available for purchase; vegetarian options are always available. For updated information, you can contact the Municipality of Pocapaglia or the Acli Circle of Macellai.
