The festival of authentic flavours of the Aosta Valley at the foot of Mont Blanc
Every late summer, the centre of Courmayeur, in the heart of the Aosta Valley, transforms into a large open-air farmers' market. Lo Matsòn is the food and wine fair that celebrates the food and wine excellences of the Aosta Valley and zero-km products, in a unique setting with Mont Blanc as a backdrop. The name comes from the local Patois: 'lo matsòn' is the merenda, the snack that farmers used to bring with them to the fields and pastures.
The heart of the event is the market, which brings together over 70 exhibitors, including local producers and artisans. Among the stalls, you'll find cured meats and cheeses (with alpine Fontina DOP as the star), fresh fruit and vegetables, honey, jams, and flours, trout and char from Aosta Valley waters, as well as wines, ciders, gins, and artisanal mountain spirits. It's an opportunity to get to know the producers up close and buy directly from the farmers.
In addition to shopping, Lo Matsòn offers a packed programme of guided tastings, masterclasses with sommeliers, educational workshops for children and adults, and live music. Recent editions have hosted big names in Italian cuisine: in 2025, for the 25th anniversary, chef Carlo Cracco led a cooking show on the Jardin de l'Ange stage.
From workshops for the little ones ('From Milk to Cheese', 'Snack Biscuits') to those for adults dedicated to alpine trout or Génépy, Lo Matsòn is an event designed for everyone. The day often concludes with entertainment, DJ sets, and street food, allowing you to discover the Aosta Valley through its most authentic flavours in the municipality of Courmayeur, in the province of Aosta.
For 2026, Lo Matsòn returns to Courmayeur on the weekend of September 5th and 6th, maintaining the formula that has made the fair famous: a large farmers' market with the food and wine excellences of the Aosta Valley, tastings, workshops for families, and live music in the town centre.
The detailed programme for the 2026 edition will be announced on the official Courmayeur Mont Blanc website in the weeks preceding the event.
Based on recent editions, the event is structured over two days at the Jardin de l'Ange and in the centre of Courmayeur, with:
