Walks with Il Caminetto: the mountains at a slow pace
Walks with Il Caminetto is a series of guided hikes that brings the summer and autumn seasons to life in Margone, a hamlet of Usseglio, located at the end of the Viù Valley in the heart of the Valli di Lanzo, in the Province of Turin (Piedmont). The initiative is promoted by the Ristorante Il Caminetto in Margone in collaboration with professional hiking guides, aiming to accompany both experienced hikers and casual enthusiasts as they discover an authentic alpine landscape.
Where we are
Margone is situated at the entrance to the upper Viù Valley, just minutes from Lake Malciaussia, one of the most scenic basins in the Valli di Lanzo. It is an ideal starting point for reaching alpine lakes, mountain pastures, and mountain hamlets on foot, following trails rich in history, such as the historic Decauville track—the old narrow-gauge railway built between the late 1920s and early 1930s for the dam construction sites.
The excursions
The program offers outings of varying duration and difficulty, from family-friendly walks to more challenging itineraries towards high-altitude lakes and pastures. Along the way, the guides share insights into the nature, traditions, and history of the valley, turning every hike into an experience of learning as well as physical activity.

Upon returning, the Ristorante Il Caminetto welcomes participants with its traditional Piedmontese cuisine, quality products, and a curated wine list: the day in the mountains concludes with a moment of conviviality within the welcoming walls of a local restaurant. It is a way to experience Usseglio and the Viù Valley not just as a sports destination, but as a complete experience of territory, taste, and alpine tradition.
