The oldest village festival in South Tyrol, set beneath the historic arcades of Egna
The Laubenfest—known in Italian as the Festa dei Portici (Portico Festival)—is considered the oldest village festival in South Tyrol. Established in 1973, it takes place every year in early August in the charming historic center of Egna/Neumarkt, one of the most picturesque villages in the Bassa Atesina area of Bolzano, in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. For three days, the town's famous medieval arcades, usually reserved for shopping and coffee breaks, transform into a vibrant festival thoroughfare.
Every evening, live bands perform on three large stages set up in the squares and under the arcades, while in the inner courtyards and cellars, DJs entertain younger crowds with modern beats and party music. The program blends traditional South Tyrolean atmosphere with contemporary fun: eighteen local associations, Schuhplattler dance groups, brass bands, and folk ensembles bring the village to life with entertainment and local culinary delicacies.
Egna/Neumarkt, located along the South Tyrolean Wine Road, is famous for its historic arcades, which are among the best-preserved in the Alps. Attending the Laubenfest means experiencing the true identity of the Municipality of Egna and its community, through traditional cuisine, local wines, and folk customs passed down through generations. It is an event that unites residents and visitors in one of the most authentic and long-standing festivals in Trentino-Alto Adige.
In 2026, the Laubenfest celebrates its 50th edition, a significant anniversary for the oldest village festival in South Tyrol. From August 7 to 9, the historic arcades of Egna will once again transform into a grand festival thoroughfare.
Every evening features live music on three stages and DJ sets in the courtyards and cellars, with culinary specialties prepared by the village associations.
Friday, August 7: Solemn opening and evening inaugural parade (Abendparade); live concerts under the arcades.
Saturday, August 8: Grand parade through the village with decorated floats and brass bands; barrel tapping (Fassanstich) in the town square; live music on three stages (town square, churchyard, arcades) and DJ sets in the inner courtyards.
Sunday, August 9: Mid-morning Frühschoppen, traditional balloon release, and children's program.
Egna/Neumarkt is located along the Wine Road, about 25 km south of Bolzano. By train, the Egna-Termeno (Auer-Neumarkt) station is on the Brenner line; by car, it can be reached via the Egna/Ora exit on the A22 Brenner motorway.
Access to the festival area is free; food and drinks can be purchased at the various association stands.
The historic center is pedestrianized during the event: it is advisable to arrive by public transport or park in the areas outside the village. The children's program runs throughout all three days.
