A long, shared dinner under the stars in the San Marco District of Rovereto
La Tavolata is one of the most anticipated summer events in Rovereto, located in the heart of the Vallagarina valley in Trentino-Alto Adige. Born as a social gathering for the San Marco District, it features an exceptionally long table that stretches across the streets and squares of the historic center: here, hundreds of people sit side by side at one endless table to share a meal under the stars. It is more than just a gastronomic event; it is a true community ritual that transforms the streets of Rovereto into a massive open-air dining room.
The heart of the evening lies with the restaurateurs of the San Marco District, who set up a genuine gastronomic trail for the occasion. Historic venues and local shops—including establishments such as Bottega Bontadi, Alimentari Finarolli, Amaranta, Locanda al Castello, and Ristorante il Doge—offer dishes specifically created for the event, with a choice of meat or vegetarian menus. Each guest collects their meal from the participating venues and enjoys it at the communal table, in a festive atmosphere of sharing.
La Tavolata has a strong visual identity: the dress code is strictly white, the color of the San Marco District, with outfits ranging from simple to elegant or creative, as long as they harmonize with the overall scene. The event is also completely plastic-free: participants are asked to bring their own plates, glasses, cutlery, and cloth napkins from home. It is a symbolic and practical gesture of sustainability that strengthens the sense of participation, often accompanied by the invitation to bring something to share with one's table neighbors.
The dinner is accompanied by live music and DJ sets playing at various points throughout the district, turning the evening into a neighborhood festival that continues late into the night. La Tavolata is a project by the Rigenera Rovereto association, which promotes urban and social regeneration in the city through its districts: initiatives that bring life, relationships, and local commerce back to the historic center. Reservations are required to participate, subject to availability.
La Tavolata returns to Rovereto on Friday, July 24, 2026, with a potential postponement to Friday, July 31, in case of bad weather. The event takes place in the San Marco District, where, from the early evening, the long table will be set up along the streets of the neighborhood. The district's restaurateurs will offer a choice of meat or vegetarian menus, while the evening will be enlivened by live music and DJ sets throughout the center.
Participation is by reservation (via Eventbrite) with an estimated cost of €15 per person. The white dress code and plastic-free spirit are confirmed: each guest brings their own plate, glass, cutlery, and napkin from home. Tickets can be collected at the Info Point in Piazza Cesare Battisti.
