Two evenings dedicated to the scorzone truffle in the heart of the Crete Senesi
When discussing truffles in San Giovanni d'Asso, a village in the municipality of Montalcino (Province of Siena), thoughts immediately turn to the famous white truffle, celebrated in autumn with the historic Market Exhibition. However, the Crete Senesi region has much more to offer: every year in mid-June, "L'altro Tartufo — Lo Scorzone" takes place, a festival focusing on the black summer truffle, or scorzone, a true delicacy of the warm season.
The formula is simple and convivial: two consecutive evenings that combine fine food and wine, entertainment, and the promotion of local traditions. The public has the opportunity to discover and taste the scorzone in one of the most iconic locations for truffle culture in Tuscany, through dinners and aperitifs prepared with this precious ingredient and accompanied by live performances. It is a way to discover a lesser-known but equally fascinating side of the truffle in an authentic village atmosphere.
San Giovanni d'Asso has always been considered a reference point for truffles in Tuscany, so much so that it is part of the National Association of Truffle Cities. The undulating, clay-rich landscape of the Crete Senesi, with its gullies and woodlands, provides the ideal habitat for the growth of various truffle varieties throughout the year. Dedicating an event to the scorzone means highlighting this seasonal wealth and sharing the local truffle culture with visitors even outside the prestigious white truffle season.
"L'altro Tartufo — Lo Scorzone" is organized by the Pro Loco of San Giovanni d'Asso with the collaboration of the Sienese Truffle Hunters Association and the patronage of the Municipality of Montalcino. The evenings take place at the Pro Loco headquarters in the heart of the village, and dinners require reservations. It is an appointment to mark in your calendar for those who love truffles and wish to experience the genuine hospitality of the Crete Senesi.
