Kalterer Weinfest / Caldaro Wine Festival

The wine festival in the heart of South Tyrol

The Kalterer Weinfest, or Caldaro Wine Festival, is one of the most beloved summer events in the municipality of Caldaro sulla strada del vino (Kaltern an der Weinstraße), in the province of Bolzano, in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. Every year, in the height of summer, the historic Via delle Cantine (Kellereistraße) transforms for four consecutive nights into a grand festive space where local wine, music, and South Tyrolean specialties take center stage.

A tradition by the Bürgerkapelle Kaltern

The event has been organized for decades by the Bürgerkapelle Kaltern, the local civic band, which manages the hospitality and musical program. The festival runs from Wednesday to Saturday, typically from 6:00 PM to 1:00 AM, guiding visitors from evening aperitifs late into the night. Every five years, the festival takes on an even more spectacular form with the traditional float parade through the village streets.

The wine of Caldaro

Caldaro is one of the most renowned wine-growing municipalities in South Tyrol, situated along the famous Wine Road. The symbol of the territory is the Lago di Caldaro DOC (Kalterersee), one of the oldest controlled designation of origin wines in South Tyrol. During the festival, you can taste wines produced on the hills surrounding the village and its lake, in a setting that blends oenological culture with conviviality.

Flavors and specialties

Cuisine is a fundamental part of the festival. Highlights include typical South Tyrolean specialties: Strauben (sweet spiral-shaped fritters typical of Tyrolean tradition), meat dishes, and various pasta courses, all paired with Caldaro wines.
