A week of world-class international beach tennis on the shores of Maremma
For an entire week, the beach of Castiglione della Pescaia, a jewel of the Maremma coast in the province of Grosseto, becomes the global hub for beach tennis. The ITF Beach Tennis World Tour is a premier stop on the international circuit promoted by the International Tennis Federation, bringing together the world's best players in this spectacular sport that blends tennis with the sand.
Organized by the ASD Beach Tennis Toscana Event association, the event draws around 300 athletes from dozens of countries every year, including many players from the world's top 20 rankings. The waterfront area near Maristella turns into a vibrant sports village, complete with sand courts, grandstands, and enthusiastic crowds following the matches from morning until night.
The sporting program features several international tournaments counting toward the ITF ranking:
Alongside the ITF events, numerous Italian Tennis and Padel Federation (FITP) tournaments take place, catering to both youth and adults with singles, doubles, and age-group categories: a perfect opportunity to bridge the gap between elite international sport and grassroots participation.
The tournament has become a staple of the spring calendar in Castiglione della Pescaia and Tuscany, combining high-level athletic performance with the charm of one of the region's most beloved seaside destinations, helping to kick off the Maremma tourist season. The presence of international athletes and their entourages creates a festive, global atmosphere defined by competition, sun, and sea.
In addition to live viewing on the beach, the tournament's key stages are broadcast via live streaming on the PLAYBT channel, with international television coverage bringing the sights of Maremma as far as South America.
The 2026 edition takes place on the beach of Castiglione della Pescaia from May 25th to 31st, confirming the event as one of the most important stops on the world calendar for this discipline.
The total prize pool for the international tournaments is $20,000. The key stages will be broadcast live on the PLAYBT channel, with international television coverage between May 27th and 31st.
Matches take place daily on the courts set up on the beach, featuring qualifiers, main draws, and consolation brackets. The week opens with the first international categories and concludes over the weekend with the decisive phases of the BT200, the most prestigious tournament.
Matches generally start in the morning. The detailed schedule of courts and times will be published by the organizers on the beachtennistoscana.it website in the days leading up to the event.
Castiglione della Pescaia can be reached by car via the SS322 and the Aurelia (SS1) road, taking the Grosseto exit. The nearest train station is Grosseto, which is connected to the coast by bus and taxi. The closest airports are Pisa and Rome Fiumicino.
The courts are set up on the beach along the Castiglione della Pescaia waterfront, in the Maristella area.
Public access to watch the matches is generally free. Registration fees apply only to participating athletes.
