The legendary triathlon on the Island of Elba, set between crystal-clear waters and breathtaking climbs
The Elbaman Triathlon is much more than a race: it is a myth that transforms Marina di Campo, a village in the municipality of Campo nell'Elba (Province of Livorno, Tuscany), into the Italian capital of endurance every late September. Considered one of the most demanding triathlons in the world, it attracts around 900 athletes from over twenty nations, drawn as much by the difficulty of the course as by the incomparable beauty of the Island of Elba.
The event features several formats, designed to cater to both long-distance specialists and beginners:
The two main races, Elbaman and Elbaman73, can be tackled either as individual athletes or as a relay team, splitting the three segments among teammates.
The swimming segment takes place in the crystal-clear waters of the Gulf of Marina di Campo, one of the island's widest and most picturesque bays. The cycling segment is the heart of the challenge: a loop that traverses the western side of Elba, passing through the municipalities of Marciana and Marciana Marina, featuring scenic hairpin bends, steep climbs, and views plunging into the sea. The final run winds along the seafront and the streets of Marina di Campo, fueled by the cheers of the crowd all the way to the finish line.
Established in the mid-2000s, Elbaman has built an international reputation over the years. It is not just a test of physical strength, but a true celebration that involves the entire community of the Island of Elba: volunteers, residents, families, and tourists all contribute to creating a unique atmosphere, living by the slogan #purepassion. For those who cross the finish line, Elbaman remains an unforgettable achievement in one of the most beautiful corners of Tuscany and the Tyrrhenian Sea.
For the 2026 edition, the Elbaman Triathlon confirms its two-day format. Saturday is reserved for introductory events, the Elbaman Aquathlon (swim and run) and the Elbaman Kids, dedicated to young athletes. Sunday, September 27th, is the day of the headline races: the start is set in the waters of the Gulf of Marina di Campo, followed by the grueling cycling segment on the western loop of the Island of Elba and the final run along the seafront.
The full Elbaman distance (3.8 km swim, 180 km bike, 42.195 km run) and the half-distance Elbaman73 (1.9 km - 90 km - 21.1 km) are both on the program, with team relay versions available for both.
Start times and the detailed grid will be published on the official website in the weeks leading up to the race, along with the updated rule book.
Highlights of the 2026 edition: the dawn swim start in the Gulf of Marina di Campo, the spectacular cycling segment between the municipalities of Marciana and Marciana Marina on the western side of Elba, and the finish line along the Marina di Campo seafront, where the crowd cheers on the athletes until late at night.
The Island of Elba can be reached by ferry from Piombino (Province of Livorno), arriving in Portoferraio, Rio Marina, or Cavo; from there, Marina di Campo is about 18-20 km away by car. Piombino is connected by train and road to the rest of Tuscany.
Registration is exclusively online via the official website www.elbaman.it. Reference fees are approximately โฌ250 for the Elbaman (full distance) and โฌ145 for the Elbaman73 (half-distance), plus service charges. A valid license issued by an ITU-affiliated Triathlon Federation is mandatory.
September is the perfect time to visit Elba: the weather is mild and the crowds are thinner. We recommend booking your ferry and accommodation well in advance, as they are in high demand during the race weekend.
