The youth national championships for ski jumping and Nordic combined at the Pellizzano Ski Jumping Centre, in Val di Sole
The Pellizzano Ski Jumping Centre, in the heart of Val di Sole, has long been a cradle for ski jumping and Nordic combined in Trentino. Every winter, the small municipality of Pellizzano, in the Province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), hosts the Italian Under-14 Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined Championships for boys and girls, combined with the Val di Sole Cup and the Igino Rizzi Cup. The event is managed by G.S. Monte Giner A.S.D., the local club that has been training the valley's young jumpers for decades.
The event takes place over an intense weekend. In the morning, at the Pellizzano centre, the ski jumping titles are decided: the youngest athletes in the Under-10 and Under-12 categories compete on the Hs20 training jump, while the aspiring Italian Under-14 champions jump from the more challenging Hs38. In the afternoon, the challenge moves to the nearby cross-country trails of Vermiglio, where the cross-country skiing events complete the Nordic combined rankings.
The event attracts dozens of young athletes from various regional FISI (Italian Winter Sports Federation) committees across the Alps. For Italian ski jumping and Nordic combined—niche disciplines with a long tradition—events like this represent the first fundamental national-level test: many Italian champions took their first steps on jumps just like the one in Pellizzano.
The national competitions are accompanied by two traditional local contests: the Val di Sole Cup, now in its forty-first edition, and the Igino Rizzi Cup, dedicated to the memory of a key figure in the valley's sporting history. These awards link the event to the valley's sporting identity, making it much more than just a competition: it is a celebration of youth mountain sports in the heart of the Trentino Alps.
The 2026 edition took place on Saturday, January 31 at the Pellizzano Ski Jumping Centre, starting at 9:30 AM: first the Under-10 and Under-12 categories from the Hs20 jump, then the Italian Under-14 Championships from the Hs38, while in the afternoon (from 2:30 PM) the cross-country events in Vermiglio decided the Nordic combined titles. Valid for the 41st Val di Sole Cup and the 11th Igino Rizzi Cup, the event was organized by G.S. Monte Giner A.S.D.
In the Under-14 special jump, national titles went to Filippo Bruni (Monte Giner) among the boys and Caterina Lazzarini (Monti Lussari) among the girls; in the Nordic combined, victory went to Giacomo Rosatti (Monte Giner) for the boys and another double for Caterina Lazzarini for the girls. Excellent performance by the local club, which featured prominently on the podium at the Pellizzano jump.
