A cultural mountain festival in Malé, Val di Sole
Mountain Week is the cultural festival that every year, at the end of August, transforms Malé, the main town of Val di Sole in the province of Trento, into a meeting point for mountaineers, writers, scientists, and high-altitude enthusiasts. Born in 2019 from the initiative of a local volunteer committee, the event has grown edition after edition to become one of the most anticipated cultural appointments of the summer in Trentino-Alto Adige.
The heart of the festival is the evening meetings in Piazza Regina Elena, where great names in mountaineering and exploration, authors discussing their books, and scientists addressing mountain environment issues—from glaciers to climate change—take the stage. Each edition revolves around a central theme that invites reflection on the relationship between humans and the mountains.
Alongside the conferences, the program offers free screenings from the Trento Film Festival, book presentations, live music moments, and a space dedicated to children, with creative workshops, climbing activities, and demonstrations led by Alpine Guides and the Alpine Rescue team.
Mountain Week is organized by a volunteer committee in collaboration with the Municipality of Malé, the Pro Loco, and the Val di Sole Tourist Board (APT), with the support of local businesses and outdoor organizations. Participation in the meetings is free, reflecting an event designed for the community and for those who love the mountains. It is an opportunity to experience Malé and Val di Sole not just as a tourist destination, but as a place of culture, reflection, and sharing.
The sixth edition of Mountain Week will be held in Malé, in Val di Sole, from August 17 to 23, 2026, preceded by a pre-event on July 25. The theme chosen for this year is "The Limit": an invitation to reflect on the physical, mental, and ethical boundaries that accompany those who live in and visit the mountains.
Announced guests include Claudio Ruatti with the story of his solo bicycle crossing of Kyrgyzstan, mountaineer Franco Nicolini, Matteo Della Bordella with the K7 expedition, as well as a meeting dedicated to endurance sports with ultrarunners Gabriele Fedrizzi, Michele Bertolini, and Marianna Daldoss, and a dialogue with Olympic and Paralympic athletes on the theme of the limit.
The program also includes screenings from the Trento Film Festival, an immersive virtual reality experience, climbing workshops and Alpine Rescue demonstrations for children and teenagers, bat observation with MUSE researchers, a trial bike show, and presentations of mountain-themed books. A bookstore with an exhibition of vintage skis will be set up in the Town Hall exhibition room. Free admission.
Malé can be reached by car via the SS42 Tonale and Mendola state road. By train, it is served by the Trento-Malé-Mezzana railway (Trentino Trasporti), with a stop in Malé. The nearest airport is Verona Villafranca.
Meetings and screenings are free of charge. Events mainly take place in Piazza Regina Elena, at the Cinema Teatro, and at the Malé Town Hall. For the detailed program and schedules: Malé Information Office, tel. +39 0463 901280, email [email protected].
