About Centallo Organ Concerts

Every winter, the San Giovanni Battista parish church in Centallo, near Cuneo, hosts the International Organ Concert Festival. This series of three free evening concerts brings together internationally renowned organists and the magnificent, restored Vegezzi-Bossi organ. Under the artistic direction of Maestro Luca Rosso, the festival blends sacred repertoire, virtuoso performances, and improvisation, transforming the 18th-century church into a captivating concert hall.

An organ festival in the heart of the Cuneo area

The International Organ Concert Festival is a musical series held in Centallo, in the province of Cuneo, nestled in the Piedmontese plains. Established in 2022, the event has quickly carved out a significant place in Piedmont's organ music scene, attracting international performers to a town of just over six thousand residents. This success is a testament to the quality of the programming and the exceptional nature of the instrument itself.

The Vegezzi-Bossi organ of the San Giovanni Battista church

The heart of the festival is the Vegezzi-Bossi organ housed in the San Giovanni Battista parish church, an 18th-century building constructed between 1764 and 1770. Recently restored and expanded, the instrument is the true star of the series: its rich and versatile voice allows it to span from Baroque to Romantic and contemporary repertoires, while also accompanying celebrated live improvisations. The Vegezzi-Bossi name represents one of the most important dynasties of Italian organ builders, active between Turin and across Piedmont.

Artistic direction and international scope

The artistic direction is entrusted to Maestro Luca Rosso, an organist with deep ties to the local musical community in Centallo. Each edition features a series of three evening concerts with organists from various countries; over the years, performers from Austria, Italy, and the United Kingdom have graced the stage, including musicians associated with some of Europe's most prestigious institutions. The program alternates between major organ repertoire and moments of improvisation on themes suggested by the audience, making every evening unique and engaging.

Three evenings with free admission

The festival traditionally takes place over three dates between February and March, always starting at 9:00 PM. Admission is free: a deliberate choice to introduce the public to organ music and promote the region's musical heritage. The festival is supported by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Fossano, Centallo Viva, and Vegezzi-Bossi sas.

Why it is worth attending

  • Internationally renowned organists in an intimate and authentic setting
  • A historic, restored Vegezzi-Bossi organ with exquisite sound
  • Programs ranging from sacred music to concert pieces, featuring live improvisations
  • Free admission to all concerts

For organ music enthusiasts and those looking to discover a lesser-known corner of Piedmont, the International Organ Concert Festival in Centallo is an event to mark on your calendar.
