The editorial illustration and children's book festival in Mondovì
Illustrada is the festival dedicated to editorial illustration and children's books that transforms the Municipality of Mondovì, in the province of Cuneo, into a capital of drawing and visual storytelling every September. Promoted by the Illustrada cultural association, active in the area since 2018, the festival celebrates "written and drawn books" by bringing some of the most important Italian and international authors and illustrators to the heart of Piedmont.
The festival is set in the evocative district of Mondovì Piazza, the high and ancient part of the city, with its historic buildings, arcaded squares, and exhibition spaces such as the Ceramics Museum. The various venues in the historic center host exhibitions, meetings, talks, and workshops, creating a widespread itinerary that invites visitors to discover both contemporary illustration and the architectural heritage of Mondovì.
The heart of Illustrada is a packed calendar of events designed for diverse audiences:
There is no shortage of evening events, such as the now-traditional live drawing sessions accompanied by music, which enliven the district's venues until late at night.
Over the years, Illustrada has attracted big names in world illustration to Mondovì. The 2025 edition featured French illustrator Rébecca Dautremer as the guest of honor, one of the most beloved figures on the contemporary scene, with an exhibition of original plates at the Ceramics Museum. The festival also pays great attention to training, organizing workshops and masterclasses reserved for illustrators and enthusiasts.
Beyond the festival days, the Illustrada association brings illustration into schools and organizes initiatives throughout the year, contributing to the promotion of reading and visual culture in the Monregalese area and throughout the Piedmont Region. Due to its unique characteristics, Illustrada is now one of the reference Italian events for those who love picture books, children's literature, and the art of editorial drawing.
The Illustrada festival returns to Mondovì from September 11th to 13th, 2026, with its usual program dedicated to editorial illustration and children's books in the Mondovì Piazza district.
Among the guests announced for this edition is the American illustrator David Wiesner, one of the most important names in world illustration, who will lead an illustration masterclass (workshop scheduled from September 8th to 11th). Exhibitions, meetings with authors and illustrators, free workshops for children and adults, readings, and the large illustrated publishing market are also confirmed.
The detailed program, with times, locations, and reservations, is currently being defined and will be published on the official website illustrada.it; event reservations are expected to open in mid-August.
By car: From Turin or Cuneo, you can reach Mondovì via the A6 Turin-Savona motorway (Mondovì exit). The festival takes place in the Mondovì Piazza district (upper city), which can also be reached by the historic funicular from the lower part of the city.
Mondovì station is served by regional connections; from the center, you can continue by bus or on foot towards Mondovì Piazza.
Many events and workshops are free; for some appointments and workshops, booking is required via the official festival platform. It is recommended to check the program on illustrada.it.
