The Easter Monday that in Venafro is celebrated on Tuesday, among the ancient olive trees of Campaglione
In Venafro (province of Isernia), tradition dictates that Easter Monday is not celebrated on Easter Monday, as in the rest of Italy, but on Shrove Tuesday, the following day. It is "i cummit'", a word from the Venafro dialect meaning "convivium": the big post-Easter outing, twenty-four hours later than the rest of the country. For the occasion, traditionally, even schools remained closed to allow children and young people to participate.
The setting for the festival is the slopes of Campaglione, the hill beloved by the people of Venafro, which today hosts the Regional Historic Agricultural Olive Park, amidst ancient olive trees and unique landscapes not far from the Cathedral. In the preceding days, tents are set up, tables, chairs, and braziers are brought; then, on Tuesday, the hills fill with hundreds of people. Once, entire families would climb, today it is mainly young people who keep the tradition alive.
The day revolves around outdoor cooking: spit-roasting over olive wood, typical Venafro dishes, wine, and lots of conviviality. There is no shortage of singing, music, and dancing among the olive trees, in an atmosphere that renews an ancient sense of community. "I Cummit'" is considered one of the most anticipated events of the Molise spring and an identity that the community of Venafro does not want to abandon.
For 2026, the Venafro Easter Monday of "i cummit'" falls on Tuesday, April 7, the Tuesday in albis. The day takes place among the ancient olive trees of the Regional Historic Agricultural Olive Park of Venafro, which provides services for the entire day. The president of the Park Authority, Fabio Iannucci, has reiterated the call to experience the festival as a moment of conviviality but also of respect, inviting young people in particular not to leave waste and to keep the park areas clean.
The day unfolds among the olive trees of Campaglione according to tradition: ascent to the Olive Park, setting up of tables and braziers, spit-roasting over olive wood, convivial lunch with typical dishes, singing, music, and dancing throughout the day.
Organization: Regional Historic Agricultural Olive Park Authority of Venafro.

Venafro is reachable by car from the SS85 and has a train station. The Olive Park is located west of the town center; during the day, traffic and access ordinances are usually in place for the area, with toilet facilities set up by the Park Authority.
The Park Authority invites participants, especially young people, to respect the environment, keep the spaces clean, and not leave waste among the ancient olive trees.
