Celebrating the forest fruit of Conca della Campania in the Alto Casertano region
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of the Alto Casertano, where chestnut forests cover the slopes of the extinct Roccamonfina volcano, the Chestnut and Local Products Festival is one of the most cherished events in Conca della Campania, in the province of Caserta. Historically hosted in the Vezzara hamlet, the festival has its roots in the 1980s and has now surpassed thirty-five editions, a testament to a tradition deeply embedded in the community.
The autumn fruit of the local chestnut groves is the true star of the event. Along the streets and squares of the hamlet, braziers are lit for the essential roasted chestnuts, while food stalls offer rustic peasant dishes and desserts prepared with chestnut flour and fruit. Alongside the chestnut, there is room for other local products, from porcini mushrooms gathered in the woods to savory pastries and dairy specialties from the Campanian hinterland.
The festival is not just about gastronomy: the evenings are enlivened by musical performances, ballroom and Latin American dance rhythms, and festive moments that bring residents and visitors together. The atmosphere is that of a genuine village fair, with hundreds of seats set up for the occasion and chestnuts offered as a symbol of hospitality.
Attending the festival is also an opportunity to get to know Conca della Campania and the Roccamonfina - Foce Garigliano Regional Park, a green and little-known corner of inland Campania, just a stone's throw from the border with Lazio and Molise. Between trails, ancient chestnut groves, and rural villages, the chestnut tells the story of an entire territory's identity.
In recent years, the event has seen variable dates and formats: the traditional autumn festival in the Vezzara hamlet was joined in 2025 by a summer festival dedicated to the chestnut, organized in the main town. We recommend always checking the official dates of the current edition with the Pro Loco or the Municipality of Conca della Campania before setting off.
At the moment, the organizers have not yet released the official dates and program for the 2026 edition. The Chestnut and Local Products Festival of Conca della Campania (Caserta province) usually takes place in the autumn, when the fruits of the Alto Casertano chestnut groves ripen, with roasted chestnuts, chestnut-based desserts, local products, and musical entertainment in the Vezzara hamlet. Information will be updated as soon as the official calendar is published.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition has not yet been published. Check this page for updates: dates, food stalls, times, and musical events will be posted as soon as they are released by the organizers.
The festival is held in Conca della Campania (ZIP 81044), in the province of Caserta, traditionally in the Vezzara hamlet.
By car: from Naples or Rome via the A1 motorway, take the Caianello exit, then follow provincial roads towards Roccamonfina - Conca della Campania. The nearest railway station is Caianello / Vairano-Caianello, from where you can continue by car.
Access to the festival is traditionally free; you only pay for what you consume at the food stalls. Seating and tasting areas are provided. We recommend comfortable clothing and a jacket for autumn evenings.
For updated dates and programs, please refer to the Pro Loco and the Municipality of Conca della Campania.
