About Christmas Markets

On the last weekend of November, the squares of Sant'Ambrogio sul Garigliano, a charming village in the Valle dei Santi (Frosinone province), transform into a festive Christmas village. Piazza San Biagio and Piazza Cadorna host craft stalls, local food specialties, music, lights, and children's entertainment, including Santa's corner. Organized by the local municipality and the "Terra Murata" Pro Loco with the support of the Lazio Region, this event kicks off the holiday season in the heart of the Ciociaria region.

A Christmas village in the "Terra Murata"

Sant'Ambrogio sul Garigliano is one of the southernmost villages in the Lazio region: a small community overlooking the Garigliano river valley, in the so-called Valle dei Santi, on the border between the province of Frosinone and Campania. On the last weekend of November, the town rings in the holidays with its Christmas Markets, a two-day event that turns the center into a cozy Christmas village filled with lights, music, scents, and stalls.

The market squares

The heart of the event is Piazza San Biagio and Piazza Cadorna, the village's two main squares, which fill up with wooden huts and exhibition stands for the occasion. Vendors offer handmade crafts, Christmas decorations, artisanal nativity scenes, and woodwork, alongside a selection of local gastronomic products: holiday sweets, honey, cured meats, local cheeses, roasted chestnuts, and mulled wine to keep you warm while strolling through the market.

Fun for the little ones: Santa's Grotto

The Sant'Ambrogio sul Garigliano Christmas Markets place a strong emphasis on families. Past editions have featured Santa's Grotto, where children can drop off their letters and take a souvenir photo, as well as a house animated by elves and costumed characters, entertainment shows, and workshops for kids. The soundtrack is provided by festive music playing throughout the squares and live choral performances, such as the Christmas concert by the Coro Annibale Messore seen in previous years.

A community event supported by the Lazio Region

The event is organized by the Municipality of Sant'Ambrogio sul Garigliano in collaboration with the "Terra Murata" Pro Locoโ€”named after the town's ancient fortified coreโ€”and is supported by the Lazio Region. It is a classic central Italian village market: intimate in scale, with a friendly atmosphere and an entire community coming together to welcome visitors from the surrounding Valle dei Santi, the Cassino area, and the nearby coast between Lazio and Campania.

Why visit

  • Authentic atmosphere of a border village in the Ciociaria, far from the most crowded tourist circuits
  • Handmade Christmas crafts: decorations, nativity scenes, wooden objects
  • Typical flavors of lower Lazio: honey, cured meats, cheeses, holiday sweets, roasted chestnuts
  • Family-friendly entertainment with Santa Claus, elves, and workshops for children
  • Free entry and two days with varied hours: Saturday afternoon and Sunday from the morning

When it takes place

The markets are traditionally held on the last weekend of November: the 2025 edition took place on Saturday, November 29th, from 4:00 PM and Sunday, November 30th, from 10:00 AM, while the 2024 edition occupied the weekend of November 30th and December 1st. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced: it is best to follow the Municipality and Pro Loco channels for confirmation.

Christmas Markets โ€” edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Sant'Ambrogio sul Garigliano Christmas Markets has not yet been officially announced. Based on recent traditions, the Christmas village is expected to return on the last weekend of November 2026 between Piazza San Biagio and Piazza Cadorna, featuring craft stalls, local products from the Valle dei Santi, and children's entertainment. The indicated dates are an estimate to be confirmed.

Christmas Markets 2026: awaiting the official announcement

The Municipality of Sant'Ambrogio sul Garigliano and the "Terra Murata" Pro Loco have not yet announced the dates for the 2026 edition of the Christmas Markets. In recent years, the event has always taken place on the last weekend of November โ€” November 29th and 30th in 2025, November 30th and December 1st in 2024 โ€” so it is likely that the Christmas village will return during that period in 2026, with the usual contribution from the Lazio Region.

The proven format includes two days between Piazza San Biagio and Piazza Cadorna: craft and Christmas gift stalls, gastronomic products typical of lower Lazio, music, lights, and a rich space for children with Santa's corner. We will update this page as soon as the 2026 program is published: in the meantime, it is worth following the "Terra Murata" Pro Loco Facebook page and the Municipality's channels.
