The Herbstkonzert der Bürgerkapelle Lana is the traditional autumn concert of the town band of Lana, the large fruit-growing municipality in the Burggrafenamt near Merano, in the province of Bolzano (South Tyrol), within the Trentino-Alto Adige region. On a late Sunday morning in autumn, the Rathausplatz, the town hall square in the center of Lana, transforms into an open-air stage for a free concert that attracts both locals and visitors to the local Kulturwochen.

Two bands, one tradition

On stage, you will find not only the Bürgerkapelle Lana—a band of about eighty musicians whose history dates back to 1832—but also its Jugendkapelle, the youth ensemble. The autumn concert is, above all, an opportunity to showcase young instrumentalists alongside more experienced musicians; the two groups alternate and sometimes perform together, representing the passing of the torch that lies at the heart of a South Tyrolean Musikkapelle. The repertoire ranges from traditional Tyrolean marches and polkas to symphonic wind music and more modern, lighthearted pieces, in a program designed for audiences of all ages.

A staple in Lana's calendar

The Herbstkonzert complements the much more famous Frühjahrskonzert, the spring concert that the Bürgerkapelle Lana holds every year on the first Sunday of March at the Kursaal in Merano, which reached its 72nd edition in 2026. While the spring concert is a formal indoor event, the autumn one brings the band out among the people, into the square, with the informal and convivial atmosphere typical of South Tyrolean village festivals. The event is part of the Kulturwochen Lana, the cultural weeks that enliven the municipality between late summer and autumn.

Open-air, in the heart of the village

The setting is the Rathausplatz, the town hall square of Lana, easily accessible on foot from the center. Admission is free: simply arrive at the square to enjoy the concert. As this is an open-air event, it will be cancelled in case of bad weather. It is a simple, authentic opportunity to hear South Tyrolean Blasmusik live and breathe the musical identity of a community that has nurtured its band for nearly two centuries, nestled among the apple orchards and mountains of the Burggrafenamt.
