The international bread movement in the heart of the Gargano
Grani Futuri is much more than a food festival; it is a true international movement dedicated to bread, born in San Marco in Lamis, in the heart of the Gargano, in the province of Foggia. Every June, this small town in Puglia becomes a landmark for bakers, chefs, agronomists, scholars, and enthusiasts who believe in bread as a tool for the sustainable development of inland areas.
The event was created by Antonio Cera, a baker and economist trained at Bocconi University, who chose to return to his hometown to revitalize the family business, Forno Sammarco. From this counter-current decision, the idea was born to tell the story of bread not just as food, but as culture, memory, and the future of the territory.
Grani Futuri is a widespread event that involves various symbolic locations in the region: the districts of San Marco in Lamis, the Convent of Stignano, Mattinata, and the spectacular bay of Vignanotica. The festival thus unites the hinterland and the coast of the Gargano, showcasing the landscape and cultural richness of this part of Puglia.
The program alternates between high-profile cultural moments and convivial experiences:
Each edition revolves around a theme that reflects the bond between bread, community, and sustainability. The common thread is always the same: to promote ancient grains, the circular economy, and the traditions of Gargano baking, restoring dignity and economic prospects to the inland areas of Puglia.
Grani Futuri is now a nationally and internationally recognized event, capable of attracting some of the most important Italian bakers, pizza makers, and chefs to San Marco in Lamis, alongside journalists and food scholars. It is an event that has successfully transformed an ancient, daily gestureโmaking breadโinto a cultural project with a European scope.
The 8th edition of Grani Futuri (June 20-21, 2026) focused on the theme 'The Bread Road โ from the earth to the future of territories', with the goal of transforming bread into a concrete tool for local development capable of uniting agriculture, tourism, and craftsmanship. The event took place across the districts of San Marco in Lamis, the Stignano Auditorium, and the bay of Vignanotica, involving bakers, chefs, university professors, and local producers in two days of meetings, experiences, and conviviality.
San Marco in Lamis is located in the Gargano, in the province of Foggia. By car, it can be reached from the A14 motorway (Foggia exit), continuing towards the Gargano along the SS89 and SS272 roads. The nearest train station is Foggia, which is connected by local bus lines.
Many events (workshops, round tables, public tastings) are free. Dinner events and some social experiences require payment and mandatory booking. Information and reservations are available on the official website granifuturi.com.
The festival is spread across San Marco in Lamis, Stignano, Mattinata, and Vignanotica: it is advisable to plan your travel by car. In summer, we recommend booking accommodation in the Gargano area well in advance.
