The Granfondo della Massa Trabaria

The Granfondo della Massa Trabaria is a mountain bike race held in Belforte all'Isauro, a small municipality in the upper province of Pesaro and Urbino, in the Marche region. The name recalls the ancient territory of Massa Trabaria, the Apennine region once famous for its fir forests, from which the beams (the trabes) used for the construction of Roman basilicas were obtained. Today, those same ridges, between Monte Carpegna and the Alpe della Luna, are the ideal playground for off-road cycling enthusiasts.

A loop course between two villages

The route develops as a loop connecting the historic villages of Belforte all'Isauro and Mercatello sul Metauro, crossing the wildest side of the Marche Apennines, on the border with Tuscany and Umbria. Riders will cycle along mule tracks, dirt roads, and single tracks immersed in the woods, with panoramic views stretching over the peaks of Monte Carpegna and Alpe della Luna.

The routes

The event offers several options to suit bikers of all levels:

• Long Loop (competitive): approximately 44 km with 1,655 meters of positive elevation gain, reserved for the fittest;
• Short Loop (competitive): approximately 33 km with 1,200 meters of elevation gain, for those seeking a more moderate challenge;
• Gravel and E-MTB Cyclotourist Ride (non-competitive): approximately 46 km with 1,350 meters of elevation gain, to be tackled following the GPX track, also open to gravel and pedal-assist bicycles.

A celebration of cycling and the territory

Although it is its first edition, the Granfondo della Massa Trabaria is born with great ambitions: the organization, managed by Team Bike Lunano, aims to transform the day into a true celebration of sport and the hinterland, complementing the races with trekking initiatives for companions and moments of promotion of local products. From its debut, the race joins two important circuits of amateur cycling in Central Italy: the Cannondale MTB Tour Toscana and the Bike Tour Coppa Marche.

Belforte all'Isauro and Massa Trabaria

Belforte all'Isauro is one of the smallest municipalities in the Marche, nestled on the banks of the Foglia river at the foot of Sasso di Simone. The village, dominated by the remains of the castle, is an ideal starting point for exploring a border territory rich in nature, abbeys, and ancient roads. The granfondo represents an opportunity to discover this little-known corner of the Apennines, where the mountains and the Marche cycling tradition meet.
