The Trifecta Weekend on the beach of Misano Adriatico
The Spartan Race is the most famous international obstacle course racing (OCR) circuit, and every September it transforms the coastline of Misano Adriatico, in the province of Rimini, into an open-air arena. For the seventh consecutive year, the Romagna stage confirms its place in the European calendar, attracting thousands of competitive athletes and amateurs ready to test their strength, endurance, and tenacity.
Misano hosts a Trifecta Weekend: over the course of the same weekend, the three official distances of the circuit are run, giving those who complete them all the chance to earn the Trifecta, the most coveted recognition among Spartans. The races on the program are:
What makes the Misano stage special is the course on the sand: the route winds along the Adriatic seafront starting from Arena 58, crosses the natural oasis of the Conca river mouth, and reaches the Portoverde area, also bordering the grounds of the famous Misano World Circuit. It's a course described as fast and flat, perfect for those aiming for a new personal record, but made challenging by the yielding sand underfoot and the iconic Spartan obstacles: walls, ropes, spears, carrying sandbags and buckets, mud.
In the 2025 edition, there were approximately 6,000 athletes at the start, confirming an event that is now a fixture of the sporting calendar in Misano Adriatico in September, often coinciding with other major local events. The Spartan philosophy goes beyond competition: "it's not just a race, it's an experience," combining personal challenge, community spirit, and the discovery of the Riviera di Rimini, with the sea, beaches, and Romagna's hospitality as the backdrop.
The 2026 edition of the Spartan Race in Misano Adriatico is scheduled for Saturday, September 19, and Sunday, September 20, 2026, based at Arena 58 on the seafront. It is a Trifecta Weekend: on the same weekend, Sprint, Super, and Beast are run, allowing athletes to earn the Trifecta. The Kids Race for the little ones and the Hurricane Heat for teams are also confirmed. Registrations are open on the official Spartan website.
By completing the Sprint, Super, and Beast on the same weekend, you earn the Trifecta. Starting times for individual heats are assigned upon registration. The course runs on the sand between Arena 58, the Conca oasis, and Portoverde.
By car: take the A14 motorway exit for Riccione, then follow signs for Misano Adriatico; the race area is at Arena 58, in via Romagna 21, on the seafront. By train: Misano Adriatico station on the Adriatic line, a few minutes from the sea. Nearest airport: Federico Fellini Airport in Rimini.
Registration is done online on the official Spartan website. Prices vary depending on the distance and when you register (rates increase as the event approaches). A Trifecta Weekend Pass is available, giving access to all three races.
Bring trail running shoes, technical clothing, and a full change of clothes; there are changing and refreshment areas on site. Misano and nearby Riccione offer numerous accommodation facilities, many with special offers for the Spartan weekend.
