The widespread festival of the Pesaro-Urbino Apennines, with its organizational heart in Sant'Angelo in Vado
Happennino is the cultural and environmental festival that for several years has enlivened the inland areas of the Apennines between the provinces of Pesaro and Urbino, in Marche. Born to give voice and new vitality back to small mountain villages, it is now a key event for those who want to experience the Marche hinterland authentically, far from the beaten tourist paths. The event is organized by the Happennino Cultural Association, which is based in Sant'Angelo in Vado, and involves a network of municipalities in the upper Metauro valley.
The Municipality of Sant'Angelo in Vado (Province of Pesaro and Urbino) holds a special place in Happennino's geography: it is here, in Via Ugo La Malfa, that the association that brings the entire event to life is based. A beautiful historic town in the hinterland, known for its prized white truffle and its historic center rich in palaces and churches, Sant'Angelo in Vado has always been one of the hubs of the festival network, a starting point and reference for the public following the widespread events in the valley.
Happennino is a widespread and itinerant event: the appointments are distributed across several municipalities in the upper Metauro valley and the Pesaro Apennines, including Sant'Angelo in Vado, Mercatello sul Metauro, Borgo Pace, Peglio, Lunano, Piobbico, and Apecchio. Each village hosts a segment of the program, transforming the entire inland area into a large open-air stage. This format allows visitors to discover churches, convents, squares, paths, and views that rarely enter traditional tourist circuits.
Happennino's program intertwines culture with environmental awareness through a varied and high-profile schedule:
What makes Happennino a special festival is its ability to intertwine live cultural experiences with the identity of the places: each event is designed to dialogue with the landscape and the community that hosts it. Over the years, the event has become a true laboratory on the theme of inland areas, capable of attracting prominent national guests and an attentive and curious audience to the Marche region, fond of a slow and immersive way of experiencing festivals. Sant'Angelo in Vado, with its association, is the silent director and the point of arrival.
The ninth edition of Happennino is announced for 2026 on the event's official website, which presents it as 'coming soon'. As is tradition, the festival is expected to take place over several weekends in September, enlivening the municipalities of the upper Metauro valley and the Pesaro Apennines, including Sant'Angelo in Vado, where the Happennino Cultural Association is based.
The complete program, with precise dates, times, guests, and locations for each event, will be announced by the organization closer to the event: it is advisable to follow the official website and social media channels for updates.
Program under development. The official website announces the ninth edition for 2026 ('coming soon'), but as of the research date, the precise dates and calendar have not yet been published.
As in previous editions, the festival includes concerts, talks, and readings, performance shows, nature treks, workshops, and gastronomic events distributed in the hinterland villages (Sant'Angelo in Vado, Mercatello sul Metauro, Borgo Pace, Peglio, Lunano, and others). The complete calendar will be published by the organization in the weeks preceding the event.
Sant'Angelo in Vado is located in the hinterland of the Province of Pesaro and Urbino, in the upper Metauro valley. By car, it can be reached from the Fano-Grosseto highway (E78) with a dedicated exit for the town. The nearest train stations and airports are in the Pesaro, Fano, and Rimini-Ancona areas, from where you can continue by car towards the hinterland.
The festival is spread across multiple municipalities: some events are free admission, while concerts, talks, and workshops often require advance booking. It is advisable to consult the official website happennino.com and social media channels for the complete program, exact locations, and booking procedures.
As this is an itinerant event among mountain villages, it is advisable to plan car travel between different locations and wear comfortable shoes for trekking. Evenings at higher altitudes, even in September, can be cool: it is useful to bring a light jacket.
