A summer of widespread events in the village of San Giovanni in Marignano
Every year, from spring to autumn, the historic center of San Giovanni in Marignano, in the Province of Rimini, comes alive with Estate fuori dal Comune, the widespread summer review that brings performance, culture, and social interaction to the squares and alleys of the Malatesta village. The title is a play on words: the events literally "leave" closed spaces and the town hall to invade the heart of the town, transforming Piazza Silvagni, the Arena Spettacoli, Largo Fosso del Pallone, and the Casa della Cultura into natural settings for a very rich program.
The program blends different genres and appeals to all ages: live music, theatre, dance, outdoor cinema, literary meetings, scientific dissemination, and visual arts. It's not a single concert but a true territorial festival spread over several months, with events following one another week after week.
Estate fuori dal Comune is inextricably linked to the village's historic festivals: from the magic of La Notte delle Streghe in June, one of the most famous events on the Riviera, to the Wine New Year's Eve and the Palio della Pigiatura in late September, which celebrate wine culture and the peasant roots of San Giovanni in Marignano. The review thus tells the authentic soul of this corner of Emilia-Romagna, where popular tradition meets cultural experimentation.
The strong point of the review is its free admission: almost all events are free, the result of the voluntary work of the Pro Loco and collaboration with the Municipality, the Municipal Library, and numerous local associations. A model of accessible culture that attracts residents and tourists from the Rimini Riviera every summer.
The 2026 edition of Estate fuori dal Comune, the sixth, is promoted by Aps Pro Loco in collaboration with the Municipality of San Giovanni in Marignano and with the patronage of the Emilia-Romagna Region. The program extends for over one hundred days, from May 10th until the weekend of September 26th-27th, transforming the village into an open-air stage with performances, meetings, and traditional festivals. This year's major new feature is the Waiting for the Eclipse series, dedicated to the spectacular solar eclipse expected on August 12th. All events are free to enter.
Opening of the review with the award ceremony for the poetry competition Pallida luna for students and a recital by Luca Nicoletti accompanied by flutist Francesca Gabrielli.
Five days of magic, installations, and performances in the village, with the artistic project Witches and Sorcerers of the World coordinated by Niccolรฒ Tonelli in Largo Fosso del Pallone and over 50 artists involved.
The closing weekend with the Wine New Year's Eve and the Palio della Pigiatura, a celebration of wine culture and the village's peasant traditions.
The events take place in the historic center of San Giovanni in Marignano (RN): Piazza Silvagni, Arena Spettacoli, Largo Fosso del Pallone, Casa della Cultura, and the Granaio dei Malatesta.
By car: take the Cattolica-San Giovanni in Marignano exit from the A14 motorway, then a few minutes inland. By train: Cattolica-San Giovanni-Gabicce station on the Adriatic line, connected to the village by local buses.
Almost all events are free to enter. For the updated program and information: Pro Loco San Giovanni in Marignano, tel. +39 0541 828124, [email protected].
