The polenta festival in the Asti Langhe, featuring Robiola di Roccaverano DOP and centuries-old traditions
The Gran Polentone Non Stop is the most iconic gastronomic festival in Roccaverano, a small village in the Province of Asti, nestled in the heart of the Asti Langhe in Piedmont. Every year, in early June, the village gathers around its most famous specialty: steaming polenta cooked in large cauldrons and served without interruption, hence the name "non stop".
The event takes place in Piazza Barbero, considered one of the most harmonious squares in Piedmont: it overlooks the ruins of the medieval castle, the tower, and the Bramante-style parish church dedicated to Maria Santissima Annunziata. It is in this setting that the polenta is served to guests, accompanied by local delicacies.
The true hallmark of the Roccaverano Polentone is the pairing of polenta with Robiola di Roccaverano DOP, a goat cheese that is the town's symbol and a pillar of the local economy alongside hazelnuts. Alongside the robiola, the menu features sausage, meat sauce, and excellent Langa wine, creating a simple, authentic dish that tells the story of centuries of peasant culture.
The festival has its roots in the 17th century: the tradition of the polentone is said to stem from the food distributions that local lords offered to the population during times of famine. Since then, the ritual has evolved into a great community celebration, attracting visitors every year from the Acqui Terme area and the Langhe.
The main day is enriched by a market along the village streets, featuring artisanal crafts and typical Langa products, games for children and teenagers, a large charity raffle, and live musical accompaniment. The event is organized by the Pro Loco Roccaverano Tourist Association with the patronage of the Municipality of Roccaverano.
The Gran Polentone Non Stop 2026 in Roccaverano was held over two days. Saturday, June 6, opened with a gastronomic evening in the square, enlivened by the music of DJ Giรฒ Caneparo. Sunday, June 7, from the morning onwards, the village streets hosted a market displaying crafts and typical Langa products, including the famous Robiola di Roccaverano DOP. At noon, the distribution of polenta began, accompanied by Robiola DOP, sausage, meat sauce, and local wine, continuing non-stop until supplies ran out in the late afternoon. The day was brightened by music from Sir William, games for children, and a charity raffle.
Roccaverano is located in the Asti Langhe, in the Province of Asti. By car, it can be reached from Acqui Terme (about 25 km) or Canelli, along the scenic roads of the Langhe. The nearest train station is in Acqui Terme, from where you can continue by car.
The festival takes place in Piazza Barbero, in the town center. Polenta distribution begins at noon and continues non-stop until supplies run out in the late afternoon.
Arrive early to find parking near the center and to ensure you don't miss out on the polenta, which is served until it runs out. Take advantage of the day to visit the medieval tower and the Bramante-style church.
