About La Carrettesca

Every late June, the village of Roccaverano in the upper Asti Langhe transforms into the capital of goat cheese for the Carrettesca Fair and Roccaverano DOP Festival. Reaching its twenty-fifth edition in 2026, the event brings together producers, local associations, restaurateurs, and schools to celebrate the only Italian goat cheese with Protected Designation of Origin status made from raw whole goat's milk. With guided tastings, masterclasses, children's workshops, quality awards, and live music, the Carrettesca highlights the deep bond between this dairy excellence and its territory.

The Roccaverano DOP Festival in the heart of the Asti Langhe

The Carrettesca Fair and Roccaverano DOP Festival is the most anticipated event in Roccaverano, a small town in the Asti Langhe, located in the Province of Asti, Piedmont. Every year, on the last weekend of June, the historic center comes alive with stalls, tastings, and visitors arriving to celebrate the cheese that shares the village's name: Roccaverano DOP, the only Italian goat cheese with Protected Designation of Origin status produced exclusively from raw whole goat's milk. In 2026, the event celebrates a significant milestone: its twenty-fifth edition.

A cheese that symbolizes an entire territory

The Carrettesca was created to showcase the connection between Roccaverano DOP and its valleys of origin, known as the Four Valleys of the upper Langhe. The cheese, available in soft textures and various aging stages, is presented by the Consortium's producers in all its forms: from fresh and delicate to more aged and intense versions. The festival is promoted by the Consortium for the Protection of Roccaverano DOP with the support of the local municipality and regional associations.

Two days of taste, tradition, and community

The program spans two days. Friday evening kicks off the festivities with the first tastings of local specialties offered by regional associations and live music. Saturday is the main day: from the morning, the village hosts a market exhibition with around forty stalls featuring producers, local products, entertainment, and demonstrations.

  • Guided tastings of Roccaverano DOP at different aging stages, paired with local wines (Barbera d'Asti, Moscato, Monferrato wines)
  • Masterclasses dedicated to the history and production techniques of the cheese
  • Cheesemaking workshops for children, to discover how cheese is made
  • Food stalls run by local associations featuring specialties from the Asti Langhe
  • Live music and entertainment for all ages

Quality awards

The Carrettesca is also a moment to recognize production excellence. Awards are presented for "The Best Roccaverano DOP on the Table", judged by the ONAF delegation of Asti, and "The Best Roccaverano DOP at the Fair", chosen by the public through a blind tasting. The symbolic heart of the festival is the investiture of the Knight of Roccaverano DOP, an honor conferred upon those who have distinguished themselves in promoting the cheese and the territory.

A destination for food and wine lovers

Visiting the Carrettesca means immersing yourself in the authenticity of the Asti Langhe: rolling hills, Romanesque churches, quality wines, and a centuries-old dairy tradition. It is an ideal appointment for those seeking slow, tasteful tourism, far from the crowds and close to the stories of the people who keep these valleys alive.

The twenty-fifth edition of the Carrettesca Fair and Roccaverano DOP Festival takes place on Friday, June 27th and Saturday, June 28th, 2026, in Roccaverano, in the Asti region. The 25th Carrettesca, 2026 edition
