The grand celebration of the PGI Tonda Gentile delle Langhe Hazelnut in the heart of the Alta Langa
The Cortemilia National Hazelnut Fair is one of the most anticipated food and wine events in Piedmont and the signature event of the Alta Langa, in the province of Cuneo. For over seventy years, the small town of Cortemilia, recognized as the capital of the hazelnut, has dedicated a grand festival in late August to the Tonda Gentile delle Langhe Hazelnut, a PGI-certified variety considered among the best in the world for its round shape, thin shell, and delicate, fruity aroma.
Throughout the event, Cortemilia's historic center transforms into a grand trail of taste. Among the town's streets and squares, visitors can discover stalls from local producers, tastings of desserts and hazelnut-based specialties, as well as bread, cheeses, and wines from the Alta Langa. There is no shortage of hazelnut cakes, nougats, and the famous pastries that have made this region famous throughout Italy.
Alongside the gastronomic offerings, the fair features local craft exhibitions, displays dedicated to farming culture and the history of hazelnut cultivation, cultural meetings, book presentations, and theatrical performances. A large area is reserved for children's entertainment, with animation, workshops, and activities designed for families.
The beating heart of the evenings are the free concerts and shows that enliven the squares and Parco La Pieve, with nationally acclaimed artists taking the stage. The fair thus combines gastronomic tradition with great live music, in a festive atmosphere that involves the entire town until late at night.
Visiting the Hazelnut Fair also means discovering the Alta Langa, a landscape of hills recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Cortemilia, with its medieval village, tower, and characteristic terraced hazelnut groves, is the ideal starting point to explore a territory where the Tonda Gentile Hazelnut has been the protagonist of the local economy and culture for centuries. The event, organized with the support of the Municipality of Cortemilia, is a unique opportunity to savor the authenticity of the most genuine Piedmont.
