The international stage race for Under 23s amidst the great climbs of the Aosta Valley
The Giro Ciclistico della Valle d'Aosta - Mont Blanc is one of the most important international stage races for the Under 23 category. Founded in 1962 and organized by the Società Ciclistica Valdostana, it has been held in July for many years and is part of the UCI Europe Tour calendar. It is considered a true breeding ground for talent: many riders who have triumphed here have gone on to become stars of world professional cycling.
The route takes place entirely within the valleys and mountains of the Aosta Valley (with excursions into French and Swiss territory), featuring stages that tackle some of the toughest climbs in the Alps. Among the finishes that have made race history are the Colle del Gran San Bernardo, the Pont di Valsavarenche, and the traditional finish in Breuil-Cervinia, at the foot of the Matterhorn. The start and several stages involve the regional capital Aosta and numerous towns in the region.
For five days, the Aosta Valley becomes the stage for the best international youth cycling, with teams and national squads from around the world. Beyond its sporting value, the race serves to promote the region and its alpine landscapes. It's an eagerly awaited event for fans, who cheer on the young riders on the climbs in one of the most selective competitions in the Under 23 circuit.
The 2026 edition of the Giro Ciclistico della Valle d'Aosta - Mont Blanc, the 63rd, is inscribed in the UCI 2026 calendar with a planned start around July 15th. The international stage race reserved for Under 23s will once again traverse the valleys and mountains of the Aosta Valley, with Aosta playing a central role in the start and several stages.
The detailed route, including stages, climbs, and finish locations for the 2026 edition, will be communicated by the Società Ciclistica Valdostana in the weeks preceding the race. The established format typically includes five days of racing with high mountain stages on the race's historic climbs, such as the Colle del Gran San Bernardo and the traditional finish in Breuil-Cervinia.
