About Gressan-Pila

The Gressan-Pila is a classic of Aosta Valley cycling: a tough bike climb that goes from Gressan, at the foot of the Aosta plain, up to the 1850 metres of the Pila resort. Eighteen kilometres and over 1250 metres of elevation gain on a demanding climb that awards the regional mountain titles. Organised by the Gruppo Sportivo Aquile di Aosta, the race follows the same ramps tackled by the professionals of the Giro d'Italia, offering competitors spectacular views of Mont Blanc and the Aosta Valley glaciers.

A classic of the Aosta Valley mountains

The Gressan-Pila is one of the most established cycling races in the Aosta Valley: a cicloscalata (bike climb) that tests legs and lungs along the ascent connecting Gressan, on the Aosta plain, to the Pila resort, at 1850 metres altitude. A short but intense route, a symbol of the mountain cycling that characterises this alpine region.

The route

It starts from the locality of La Borettaz in Gressan and covers 18 kilometres with approximately 1250 metres of positive elevation gain, ending at Pila. A continuous and selective climb that rewards specialists of steep gradients and awards the regional mountain titles.

On the roads of the Giro d'Italia

The Gressan-Pila has a special charm because it retraces the same ramps covered by the professionals of the Giro d'Italia in the stage finishing at Pila. Cycling this route means competing, as amateurs, on a climb worthy of a major race, immersed in the scenery of the Mont Blanc massif and the Aosta Valley peaks.

Organisation

The event is managed by the Gruppo Sportivo Aquile di Aosta, a historic sports club in the area. The race brings together amateur cyclists from all over the region and beyond each year, for a day of sport and celebration that combines competition and passion for the mountains.

Gressan-Pila — edition 2026

On Sunday, June 7, 2026, the Gressan-Pila returns for its 22nd edition, after the break in 2025. Start at 10 AM from La Borettaz and an 18 km climb with 1250 metres of elevation gain to Pila, at 1850 metres. The race, organised by Aquile di Aosta, awards the regional mountain titles on the roads of the Giro d'Italia stage.

The 2026 edition of the Gressan-Pila, the 22nd, is scheduled for Sunday, June 7, marking the return of the classic after the edition skipped in 2025. Organised by Gruppo Sportivo Aquile di Aosta, the bike climb restarts with renewed enthusiasm on the same roads covered by the professionals of the Giro d'Italia.
