The evening road race in the heart of Borgo San Dalmazzo
The Gir per i Carubi - AVIS Trophy Borgo San Dalmazzo is one of the most cherished road races in the Cuneo province. Held on a May evening in the historic center of Borgo San Dalmazzoโa town nestled at the foot of the Cuneo valleys in Piedmontโit has been attracting running enthusiasts, families, and spectators for over fifteen years, becoming a classic fixture on the regional calendar.
Organized by the AVIS of Borgo San Dalmazzo in collaboration with local running clubs, the event is driven by a dual purpose: a passion for running and the promotion of blood donation. This is why the Gir per i Carubi is more than just a race; it is a community celebration that weaves together competitive spirit and solidarity.
The heart of the event is the two-person American-style relay: two athletes alternate laps on a circuit of approximately 1.6 km, creating a fast-paced, spectacular race that is perfect for spectators lining the course. Alongside the relay, there are individual races for adults and youth categories for younger runners, with staggered start times based on age groups.
Each edition of the Gir per i Carubi is dedicated to the memory of individuals linked to local running and the Borgo San Dalmazzo community, with memorials named after deceased members and leaders. It is a way to link the race to the history of the town and honor those who helped build this event.
The historic center, with its squares and narrow streets, serves as a natural stage: the public can watch the races just steps away from the athletes, creating an atmosphere of a village festival that remains one of the event's hallmarks throughout the Cuneo province and the Piedmontese running scene.
The Gir per i Carubi is designed for both registered athletes and those simply looking to spend an evening outdoors. Registration is open in the days leading up to the race, both online and on-site, while spectators can watch the races for free along the circuit. It is an ideal appointment to discover Borgo San Dalmazzo and soak up the sporting spirit of the Cuneo valleys.
