The summer alley festival in Frassineto, featuring Tyrolean specialties and village charm
The Gasslfest in Verschneid is a summer highlight that gathers the small community of Frassineto (Verschneid), a hamlet in the municipality of Mölten, in the province of Bolzano, South Tyrol. The festival takes place in the Gassl, the alley that gives the event its name in the South Tyrolean dialect: the narrow passage between the village shop and the Stations of the Cross (Kreuzweg) transforms for one night into an illuminated, decorated open-air lounge where people gather to eat, toast, and enjoy each other's company.
Nestled at an altitude of about 1,100 meters on a panoramic terrace between Bolzano and Merano, Frassineto is a rural village that retains a quiet and authentic atmosphere. Its name recalls the numerous ash trees that once populated the area, while the village center is dominated by the small church of San Biagio, mentioned in a document as early as 1325. Surrounded by apple orchards, vineyards, and larch forests, it perfectly reflects the dual alpine and agricultural soul of this corner of the Mölten plateau.
The heart of the evening is the gastronomy: the Tourismusverein Mölten offers specialties of Tyrolean cuisine, fragrant apricot dumplings (Marillenknödel), spoon desserts, and homemade cakes prepared by local families. It is the ideal opportunity to taste the genuine flavors of South Tyrolean tradition in an informal and familiar setting, far from the main tourist crowds.
The Gasslfest is part of the cycle of festivals that mark the summer in Frassineto, alongside the spring horse ride and the late-summer dumpling buffet. It is a popular event that celebrates the community life of this small village and represents an authentic opportunity to discover the hospitality and traditions of Mölten, in a lesser-known but charming corner of South Tyrol.
The Gasslfest in Verschneid returns on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 7:00 PM in the alley between the village shop and the Stations of the Cross in Frassineto, Mölten, South Tyrol. As per tradition, the Tourismusverein Mölten offers Tyrolean specialties, apricot dumplings (Marillenknödel), and homemade cakes during a convivial open-air evening. The detailed program will be published by the organizers closer to the event.
