Every Thursday, from mid-July to the end of October, the small town of Nalles/Nals — in the heart of the province of Bolzano, Trentino-South Tyrol — serves as the starting point for a well-established cycling event. The Sunshine Racers Nals guides, in collaboration with the local Tourist Board, accompany cyclists of all levels to explore the alpine-Mediterranean landscape surrounding the so-called 'village of roses' (Rosendorf), overlooking the South Tyrol Wine Road between Merano and Bolzano.

The Routes

The program is designed to meet diverse needs, from families to experienced bikers. Options range from leisurely rides along the rows of vineyards and apple orchards in the Adige Valley to more technical mountain bike tours climbing the mid-mountain slopes. Destinations throughout the season include:

• the fertile Adige Valley along the Adige cycle path and the Via Claudia Augusta;
• the Monticolo forest with its lakes;
• the heights of Sirmiano and the Salto plateau (Tschöggelberg);
• Lake Caldaro, further south;
• longer excursions reaching as far as Lake Garda.

All outings can also be tackled on an e-bike: simply indicate this when registering. Difficulty levels range from easy to very demanding, creating a schedule suitable for both those seeking a relaxing trip and those looking to challenge themselves.

Nalles, the Village of Roses on the Wine Road

Nestled between Merano and Bolzano, Nalles is a charming wine-growing village in South Tyrol known for its rose cultivation and sunny vineyards. Its location, bridging the mild climate of the valley floor and the surrounding mountains, makes it an ideal base for cycle tourism: a network of routes branches out from here, allowing for a mix of scenic rides and more vigorous climbs, all immersed in the typical landscape of South Tyrolean viticulture.

How to Participate

The meeting point is every Thursday at 9:00 AM at Rathausplatz, the town hall square in the center of Nalles. Registration is mandatory and must be completed by the previous day at the Nalles Tourist Board. For guests staying at participating accommodations, participation is free (excluding any ski lift fees); otherwise, the cost ranges from 25 to 40 euros depending on the chosen tour.
