The ultimate trail running weekend in Upper Garda, finishing in the historic center of Arco
The Garda Trentino Trail is the mountain running event that brought world-class trail running to the shores of Lake Garda, in the town of Arco, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). Established in 2016, the event has grown year after year to become a true festival of nature running, attracting nearly two thousand athletes from all over Italy and half of Europe in a single weekend in May.
The strength of the Garda Trentino Trail lies in its variety: six different routes allow elite ultra-trailers and passionate hikers alike to find their ideal race. Options range from the grueling Extra — 150 km and approximately 10,000 meters of positive elevation gain, one of the most challenging ultras in the Alps — to the 100 km Extra 100, the classic 62 km route, the Ledro Trail (44 km), and the Tenno Trail (30 km). Rounding out the weekend is the Garda Trentino Castle Run, a 12 km race featuring the majestic Castle of Arco as its centerpiece: the most accessible and spectacular route, open even to those new to trail running.
The trails traverse some of the most beautiful vistas in the Trentino Upper Garda region: the lakefront between Riva del Garda and Torbole, the scenic paths above Arco, the Ledro Valley, and the medieval village of Tenno with its emerald-colored lake. All routes converge on the historic center of Arco, where the finish line becomes a celebration with crowds, music, and cheering along the town streets.
Beyond the competition, the Garda Trentino Trail is an event that celebrates the local area: the event has earned the EcoEventi Trentino certification, with a special focus on reducing single-use plastics and supporting local supply chains. It is an appointment that unites sport, nature, and community, confirming Arco and Upper Garda as one of the European capitals of outdoor sports.
The 2026 edition, the eleventh, set a participation record with nearly 1,900 athletes at the start across the weekend's six distances. The proven formula was confirmed: three days of racing between Lake Garda, the mountains of Upper Garda, and the villages of the Ledro and Tenno valleys, with the finish line in the historic center of Arco.
Among the top names expected at the start were prominent trail running figures such as Andreas Reiterer, Nadir Maguet, Isacco Costa, Emma Stuart, and Alessia Scaini. The event maintained its EcoEventi Trentino certification, with a focus on environmental sustainability and the promotion of local supply chains.
