The European Championship for the RS Feva sailing class on Lake Garda
The RS Feva European Championship is the premier continental event for the RS Feva class, one of the most widespread double-handed dinghies for youth sailing, reserved for Under 15 crews. The event is held on the waters of the upper Lake Garda, off the coast of Riva del Garda, in the Province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), and is organized by the Fraglia Vela Riva, one of the most active sailing clubs on the international stage.
Founded in 1928, the Fraglia Vela Riva is a benchmark for competitive youth sailing, capable of hosting world-class regattas such as the Garda Optimist Meeting. The clubhouse is located on Via Giancarlo Maroni, along the Riva del Garda waterfront, in a prime position to harness the basin's thermal winds: the famous Ora, the southern afternoon breeze, and the Peler, the northern wind that blows at night and in the morning. These consistent and reliable conditions make the upper Garda one of the most highly regarded regatta venues in Europe.
The RS Feva is a small two-person dinghy designed to introduce young people to competitive sailing. Agile, robust, and equipped with an asymmetric spinnaker, it allows U15 crews to test themselves in technical and exciting races. The European Championship is part of the International RS Feva Class Association's continental circuit and is considered one of the season's flagship events for this class.
Each edition attracts over a hundred crews from more than ten European nations, with hundreds of young sailors, coaches, and families enlivening the port and waterfront of Riva del Garda for several days. Racing days generally run from 9 a.m. until the afternoon, with multiple races per day and a final awards ceremony at the end of the event. The competition helps solidify the reputation of Riva del Garda and the Garda Trentino region as a capital for youth sailing and outdoor sports.
The RS Feva European Championship 2026 will be held in Riva del Garda from September 30 to October 3, 2026, based at the Fraglia Vela Riva. Racing days will tentatively run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with multiple races per day depending on the wind conditions of the upper Garda.
As per tradition, the event will attract over one hundred U15 crews from numerous European nations. The detailed program, the Notice of Race, and the list of entrants will be made available by the organizers as the event approaches.
Riva del Garda can be reached by car via the A22 Brenner motorway (exit Rovereto Sud - Lago di Garda Nord), then following the SS240. The nearest train station is Rovereto, which is connected to Riva by regular bus services. The closest airports are Verona Villafranca and Bergamo Orio al Serio.
The race course and shore base are located at the Fraglia Vela Riva, at Via Giancarlo Maroni 2, on the Riva del Garda waterfront.
