The charity walk through the hills and vineyards of Canelli
Fuma C'Anduma โ a Piedmontese dialect expression meaning "let's smoke, let's go" โ is the food and wine walk that brings hundreds of participants to the hills of Canelli every year in early June. Known as the city of Moscato in the province of Asti, Canelli lies in the heart of the Vineyard Landscapes of Piedmont, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This event blends light exercise, gastronomy, and charity into a single evening dedicated to the Piedmontese art of good living.
The 4-kilometer route winds along paved roads and dirt paths between the Santa Chiara parish and the Regione Boschi area, crossing vineyards and scenic climbs that offer breathtaking views of the rolling hills. The walk begins in the courtyard of the Santa Chiara parish in the late afternoon, allowing participants to enjoy the route in the golden light of sunset.
Along the way, there are four gourmet stops, each dedicated to a traditional dish and a local wine:
After the walk, the festivities continue with entertainment and shows. Recent editions have featured country dancing by the "Old Wild West" school, the "OPS" show by Jessica Da Rodda, and live caricatures by the CIA (Comics Illustrations and Arts) association. Past years have also included guided stargazing and theatrical performances, highlighting the event's friendly and communal spirit.
Above all, Fuma C'Anduma is a charity event: a portion of the registration fee is donated to local volunteer associations in Canelli. The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Cassinasco in collaboration with La Botteghina, the AIDO Municipal Group of Canelli, the CIA cultural association, and "Dal fuso in poi," with the patronage of the Municipality of Canelli and the Province of Asti.
Launched just a few years ago, the event has quickly become one of the most anticipated early-summer gatherings in the Asti Monferrato region. It successfully combines the promotion of Piedmont's wine landscape with the community-focused, charitable spirit typical of the Pro Loco. For families, food lovers, and hikers alike, it is the perfect opportunity to experience the hills of Canelli from a unique perspective.
The fifth edition of Fuma C'Anduma was held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, starting at 6:45 PM from the Santa Chiara parish courtyard in Canelli. Participants walked about 4 km through vineyards and scenic paths, with four gourmet stops: an aperitif at Camillina, vitello tonnato and Barbera in Regione Boschi, a truffle tasting at Tartufaia รl Valรซt, and friciule with lard and gorgonzola, beer, dessert, and Moscato at La Botteghina.
Afterward, the event featured country dancing by the "Old Wild West" school, the "OPS" show by Jessica Da Rodda, and live caricatures by the CIA association. Organized by the Pro Loco of Cassinasco with the patronage of the Municipality of Canelli and the Province of Asti, the event donated a portion of the proceeds to local volunteer associations.
Canelli can be reached by car via the A33 Asti-Cuneo motorway (Isola d'Asti exit) or the main road connecting Asti to Acqui Terme. By train, the Canelli station is served by the Asti-Alessandria-Acqui line. The walk starts in the courtyard of the Santa Chiara parish.
For every adult registered, โฌ5 is donated to local associations.
Comfortable trekking shoes are recommended due to the uphill sections; the route is not suitable for strollers. Please report any special dietary requirements upon registration.
