The flagship event of Italian olive oil tourism, amidst Umbria's villages, olive mills, and groves
Frantoi Aperti in Umbria is the flagship event of Italian olive oil tourism. Organized by the Association Strada dell'Olio DOP Umbria, every autumn it transforms the region into a vast, widespread itinerary dedicated to DOP extra virgin olive oil. The event, which began in the late 1990s, has grown to involve dozens of villages, olive mills, and farms, coinciding with the olive harvest and first pressing season.
For five weekends, the region's olive mills open their doors to visitors to showcase the olive processing and offer tastings of the freshly pressed oil. A rich program unfolds around this production hub: tastings, trekking along the Assisi-Spoleto Olive Belt, markets, exhibitions, concerts among ancient olive trees, themed dinners, and activities for children. All five Umbrian olive-growing areas — Colli del Trasimeno, Colli Martani, Colli Assisi e Spoleto, Colli Orvietani, and Colli Amerini — are featured.
Among the municipalities animating the event are Montefalco, Trevi, Spello, Assisi, Bevagna, Giano dell'Umbria, Castel Ritaldi, and Campello sul Clitunno, each with its own events dedicated to olive oil and local culture. Frantoi Aperti is now a national benchmark for those who want to experience authentic Umbria, with its olive landscapes, medieval villages, and seasonal flavors.
The 2026 edition of Frantoi Aperti in Umbria runs from October 17 to November 15, spread over five weekends. Organized by the Association Strada dell'Olio DOP Umbria, the event focuses on immersive experiences, promoting lesser-known destinations, and engaging new audiences. As every year, the region's olive mills open for the milling and tasting of the new oil, accompanied by trekking along the Olive Belt, markets, concerts among the olive trees, and themed dinners in the villages of Montefalco, Trevi, Spello, Assisi, Bevagna, Giano dell'Umbria, and Campello sul Clitunno.
