Umbrian oil tourism during the harvest season
Frantoi Aperti in Umbria is the major event that celebrates extra virgin olive oil in the region every autumn, during the olive harvest and first pressing season. It is one of the most symbolic events for oil tourism in Italy: for several weeks, spread over multiple weekends, oil mills open their doors to visitors to showcase the processing of freshly pressed oil.
Trevi, in the province of Perugia, is one of Umbria's oil capitals and a focal point of the event, with its Festivol event and local oil mills. However, the initiative involves the entire olive-growing belt that winds along Umbria's hilly slopes, touching numerous villages famous for their Umbria DOP oil.
The program includes visits to oil mills with tastings of new oil, exhibition markets of typical products, trekking and walks among centuries-old olive trees, e-bike tours, routes to discover monumental olive trees, and village festivals. Promoted by the Strada dell'Olio DOP Umbria (Umbria DOP Oil Route), Frantoi Aperti is the ideal opportunity to experience Umbria's olive landscape at its most authentic time of year.
The 2026 edition of Frantoi Aperti in Umbria, the 26th, is scheduled from October 17 to November 15, structured over several autumn weekends. The event involves the oil mills and villages of the Umbrian olive-growing belt, with Trevi and its Festivol among the protagonists. Among the offerings: visits to oil mills with tastings of new oil, exhibition markets of typical products, trekking among olive trees, and e-bike tours, to discover the olive landscape and the Umbria DOP extra virgin oil.
The 26th edition unfolds over multiple weekends between October 17 and November 15, 2026, in the towns of the Umbrian olive-growing belt. Each village offers its own program: in Trevi, in particular, Festivol is held, with visits to local oil mills (such as Frantoio Gaudenzi and Società Agricola Trevi 'Il Frantoio'). Among the widespread experiences: visits to oil mills and tastings of new oil, trekking among olive trees, e-bike tours, routes among monumental olive trees, and markets of typical products. The detailed calendar by town and weekend is published on frantoiaperti.net.
Trevi can be reached by car via the SS3 Flaminia; Trevi train station is on the Foligno-Spoleto line. Nearest airport: Perugia San Francesco d'Assisi. The event is spread across several towns in the Umbrian olive-growing belt.
Many events are free to enter; visits to oil mills, tastings, and activities may require booking and a fee. Program and bookings available at frantoiaperti.net.
