A spring festival celebrating floriculture, strawberries, and local flavors in Francavilla al Mare
Francavilla Flowers and Strawberries is the event that heralds the arrival of the warm season every May in Francavilla al Mare, a charming town in the province of Chieti, located along the Trabocchi Coast in Abruzzo. Established eleven years ago along the famous Lungomare Tosti, the festival has grown with each edition to become one of the most anticipated spring events in the region, drawing visitors from across the area and the nearby cities of Pescara and Chieti.
At the heart of the event is a large market exhibition dedicated to floriculture, transforming the town squares into an open-air garden. Ornamental plants, flowers, aromatic herbs, and agricultural machinery share space with stalls showcasing local strawberries and traditional culinary delights. As the undisputed stars alongside the flowers, the strawberries highlight a fruit-growing tradition deeply rooted in the Francavilla countryside.
Alongside the market stalls, the festival offers a rich entertainment program: live cooking shows, a street food area, sweet tastings, roving performers, evening concerts, and numerous activities for children and families, ranging from creative workshops and musical games to bouncy castles. The Slow Food Francavilla Convivium enhances the event with initiatives like the beach picnic and the food and wine walk through the hillsโconvivial moments that blend food culture, nature, and landscape.
The event is promoted by the Municipality of Francavilla al Mare in collaboration with the Nuova Asterope Association and the Slow Food Francavilla Convivium, with the goal of showcasing the farmers, nurserymen, and producers who help keep the city's productive and rural identity alive every day. With free admission and a festive atmosphere, Francavilla Flowers and Strawberries is the perfect opportunity to discover the green and gastronomic soul of the Adriatic Abruzzo.
The 2026 edition of Francavilla Flowers and Strawberries, the eleventh, brought the center of Francavilla al Mare to life on Saturday, May 16, and Sunday, May 17, from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM. The town squares hosted a large market exhibition of plants, flowers, agricultural machinery, and local products, alongside a street food area and spaces dedicated to children.
Program highlights included: the live cooking show by Chef Tommaso Olivieri, the Bubble Show and creative workshops, The Greatest Circus Show, baby dance, the concert by La Sonora Mezclado in Piazza Adriatico, the Disney Princess Tribute Show, and the performance by Fabrizio Stella with the Funky Soul Friends. On Saturday, the Slow Food Francavilla Convivium hosted a beach picnic, while Sunday morning featured a food and wine walk through the Francavilla hills with a stop at the small Church of San Biagio.
Francavilla al Mare is easily accessible by car via the A14 motorway (Pescara Sud-Francavilla al Mare exit). The Francavilla al Mare-Pescara Sud railway station is served by regional trains on the Adriatic line. The nearest airport is Pescara-Abruzzo Airport, located just a few kilometers away.
Admission to the event is free. The exhibition areas are spread across Piazza Sant'Alfonso, Largo Orio Vergani, and Piazza Adriatico. Street food areas and zones dedicated to children are available. Reservations are required for the beach picnic organized by Slow Food.
