The food and wine festival celebrating Abruzzo's identity in Vasto
Food Identity - Lands of Colors and Flavors is the summer event that transforms the heart of Vasto, in the province of Chieti, into a vibrant showcase of Abruzzo's food and wine culture. Born from the successful revitalization of the Santa Chiara Market, the festival aims to tell the story of food identity as a catalyst for local development, fostering dialogue between producers, artisans, wineries, and the public.
The festival unfolds across two iconic city landmarks. Piazza Lucio Valerio Pudente hosts the local produce market, featuring stands from regional food producers. Meanwhile, the Neapolitan Gardens of Palazzo d'Avalos serve as the venue for the "Assaggi di territorio" (Tastes of the Territory) initiative, the event's oenological heart, where sommeliers guide visitors through tastings of Abruzzo's finest white wines and regional gastronomic excellence.
The stars of the show are Abruzzo wines and farm-to-table local products. Previous editions have brought together dozens of wineries offering over one hundred labels for tasting, alongside a selection of artisanal food producers. Guided tastings, conducted with the support of the Italian Sommelier Foundation, lead guests on a journey to discover native white grape varieties and the flavors that define both the hinterland and the scenic Trabocchi Coast.
Evenings are enlivened by live music, often featuring performances by the Civic School of Music with acoustic ensembles of guitar, violin, and accordion, providing a charming backdrop to the historic streets and squares of Vasto overlooking the Adriatic Sea.
Promoted by Confesercenti Chieti and CIA Chieti-Pescara with the patronage of the Municipality of Vasto, and supported by organizations such as the Chieti Pescara Chamber of Commerce and the GAL Costa dei Trabocchi, the event combines a festive atmosphere with a series of conferences and reflections on the revival of indoor markets and food quality and safety. Food Identity is much more than a food festival: it is a cultural project that celebrates Abruzzo through its colors and flavors.
The fourth edition of Food Identity - Lands of Colors and Flavors returns to Vasto on August 27 and 28, 2026, starting at 7:00 PM. The historic center once again hosts the local produce market in Piazza Lucio Valerio Pudente and the tastings in the Neapolitan Gardens of Palazzo d'Avalos.
For 2026, the event, promoted by Confesercenti Chieti and CIA Chieti-Pescara with the patronage of the Municipality of Vasto, continues to focus on Abruzzo wines, local agri-food products, and live music, offering an evening journey dedicated to the culinary identity of Vasto.
