The Argentine tango festival in the heart of Lunigiana
In the heart of Lunigiana, at the northernmost tip of Tuscany, the town of Fivizzano (Province of Massa-Carrara) hosts one of the longest-running and most beloved Argentine tango events in Italy every year. Fivizzano Tango World was founded in 1999 from the vision of Bruno Fiorentini, the artistic soul and director of the Ensemble Hyperion, and has evolved over the years into a festival that combines a passion for dance with warm, small-town hospitality.
The festival spans several days, typically from Friday to Sunday, with the Fivizzano Sports Hall serving as the headquarters for the dancing. The milongas are the beating heart of the event: dancing continues from late afternoon until four in the morning, accompanied by specialized DJs and, above all, live music from the Ensemble Hyperion and international guest orchestras.
Alongside the milongas, there are workshops and masterclasses with renowned instructors, focusing on technique, musicality, and traditional Argentine dances such as the chacarera. Performances by the masters and live concerts punctuate the evenings, offering participants moments of great intensity.
What distinguishes Fivizzano Tango World from a simple tango marathon is its deep connection to the local area. Between one tanda and the next, the festival offers Argentine asado and aperitifs featuring tastings of typical Lunigiana products and local wines, turning the event into a celebration that involves the entire village community. Fivizzano, with its squares, historic buildings, and the backdrop of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, offers a picturesque setting that tangueros from all over Europe have come to love.
Thanks to the consistent organization of the Ensemble Hyperion and the welcoming atmosphere, Fivizzano Tango World has become a fixture on the European tango calendar, attracting hundreds of dancers from all over Italy and abroad. It is an event that proves how even a small Tuscan town can become a crossroads for a musical culture from as far away as Buenos Aires.
The 2026 edition of Fivizzano Tango World marks an important milestone: the Ensemble Hyperion organization announces a special edition dedicated to the festival's anniversary. The event is set for October 2, 3, and 4, 2026, in Fivizzano, Lunigiana.
The formula that made the event famous is confirmed: milongas from late afternoon until four in the morning, workshops with tango masters, live concerts, aperitifs with tastings of typical Lunigiana products, and the essential Argentine asado.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced by the organizers on the official Ensemble Hyperion website ("FULL PROGRAM COMING SOON").
