About OCA Oasy Contemporary Art

OCA – Oasy Contemporary Art and Architecture is an open-air museum nestled in the woods of Oasi Dynamo, in the Pistoia Apennines, within the municipality of San Marcello Piteglio. At an altitude of 900 meters, a trail of installations by international architects and artists—from Kengo Kuma to Alejandro Aravena—engages in a dialogue with the reserve's natural landscape. The 2026 season is dedicated to Belgian artist Arne Quinze, featuring the installation Ceramorphia and the solo exhibition I'm a Gardener.

An open-air museum in the Pistoia Apennines

OCA – Oasy Contemporary Art and Architecture is one of the most fascinating contemporary art projects in Tuscany: an exhibition itinerary that winds through the woods of Oasi Dynamo, a WWF-affiliated nature reserve in the municipality of San Marcello Piteglio, in the province of Pistoia. At an altitude of approximately 900 meters in the Pistoia Apennines, the artworks are not confined within gallery walls but are placed directly in the landscape, where they enter into a dialogue with the trees, clearings, and silence of the mountains.

A journey through art, architecture, and landscape

The permanent OCA trail brings together some of the most prominent names in international architecture and art. Along the route, visitors encounter works by Kengo Kuma (the Dynamo Pavilion), Michele De Lucchi with poet Mariangela Gualtieri, Matteo Thun, Alejandro Aravena, digital artist Quayola, David Svensson, and Pascale Marthine Tayou. Each piece is designed to integrate into the natural environment, without imposing itself on the forest, but rather inviting the visitor to reflect slowly on the relationship between humanity and nature.

The project is under the artistic direction of Emanuele Montibeller and is part of the Grandi Giardini Italiani network. In the coming months, the trail will be enriched with new works, including pieces by the collective fuse* and Stefano Boeri.

The 2026 season: Arne Quinze

The 2026 season of OCA is dedicated to Belgian artist Arne Quinze, known for his work on the relationship between humans and biodiversity. The artist brings the installation Ceramorphia to Oasi Dynamo, previously presented at the 2024 Venice Biennale, adding a new chapter to the open-air trail. Meanwhile, the gallery spaces host the solo exhibition I'm a Gardener, considered the artist's first major Italian exhibition, featuring paintings and works on canvas.

Visits and services

Admission to the exhibition is free, while the guided tour of the park is available by reservation for a modest fee. The reserve's Visitor Center houses the Casa Luigi bistro restaurant, which offers high-quality cuisine by reservation. A visit to OCA is an experience that combines contemporary art, architecture, and hiking in the nature of the Tuscan Apennines, just a short distance from Pistoia and Florence.

Arne Quinze at OCA 2026

The 2026 season revolves around two complementary projects by the Belgian artist Arne Quinze, dedicated to the relationship between humans and biodiversity:

  • Ceramorphia — an outdoor installation along the trail in the woods of Oasi Dynamo, previously presented at the 2024 Venice Biennale. The work engages with the Pistoia Apennines landscape without imposing itself upon it.
  • I'm a Gardener — a solo exhibition in the gallery spaces, the artist's first major Italian exhibition, featuring paintings and works on canvas that explore the bond between man and nature.

The permanent trail

Along the outdoor route, visitors encounter works by Kengo Kuma (Dynamo Pavilion), Michele De Lucchi and Mariangela Gualtieri (Nella terra il cielo), Matteo Thun (Fratelli Tutti), Quayola (Erosions), Alejandro Aravena (Self-regulation), David Svensson (Home of the World), and Pascale Marthine Tayou (Plastic Bags). Throughout 2026, new works by the collective fuse* (Vanishing Horizon) and Stefano Boeri (Deus Sive Natura – What I Believe) are expected.
