About Chestnut Festival Borgo dei Celti

Every weekend in October and the first weekend of November, the Il Borgo dei Celti farm stay in Doccia del Cimone, Fiumalbo (MO), celebrates autumn with its Chestnut Festival, now in its fifteenth edition. It's a stay-event designed for a 360° experience of mountain colors and flavors: chestnut picking on the farm's land, an excursion to the evocative Celtic huts with local product tasting, walks in the Frignano woods, and traditional dinners featuring necci (chestnut flour crepes) and chestnut flour. An immersive experience in the heart of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines.

A Mountain Weekend Dedicated to Chestnuts

The Chestnut Festival at Borgo dei Celti is not a town square fair but a stay-event that takes place every weekend in October and the first weekend of November at the farm stay of the same name, in the Doccia del Cimone area of Fiumalbo, in the heart of the Modenese Apennines. Now in its fifteenth edition, the event invites families, couples, and groups of friends to immerse themselves in the autumn of the high Emilian mountains, amidst chestnut groves, trails, and border gastronomic traditions.

Where it Takes Place: Fiumalbo, One of Italy's Most Beautiful Villages

We are in the Province of Modena, in Emilia-Romagna, at over 950 meters above sea level, between Monte Cimone and Abetone. Fiumalbo is recognized as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy and awarded the Orange Flag by the Touring Club: a village of stone houses with ancient origins, evidenced by the famous Celtic huts (casoni), rural stone buildings with stepped roofs protected by sandstone slabs, some of which still retain their rye straw covering.

Festival Activities

The program for each weekend revolves around chestnuts and discovering the territory. Among the proposed activities:

  • Chestnut picking on the farm's land, on Sunday mornings;
  • Excursion to the Celtic huts, on Saturday afternoons, with tasting of local products upon return;
  • Walks in the Frignano woods and visit to the village of Fiumalbo;
  • Dinners at the farm stay with mountain cuisine that tells the story of the encounter between Emilian and Tuscan traditions, based on chestnuts, necci, and chestnut flour;
  • Buffet breakfast and, for those choosing the package, a wellness area with barrel sauna and heated tub.

Flavors of the Apennines

The cuisine at Borgo dei Celti highlights seasonal ingredients typical of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. The absolute star is the chestnut, featured in necci (the typical chestnut flour crepes) and traditional mountain dishes, to be enjoyed in the panoramic dining room overlooking the Apennine peaks.

Who It's For

The stay-event formula makes it ideal for those who want to disconnect and spend an authentic weekend in the mountains: two days of pure relaxation or a day dedicated to hiking, good food, and outdoor activities. Booking is always required.
