In Lucca, the birthplace of Giacomo Puccini, the Puccini e la sua Lucca – International Permanent Festival takes the stage every evening of the year. It is the first and only permanent festival in the world entirely dedicated to a single composer. Founded on March 6, 2004, by Maestro Andrea Colombini, artistic director and president, the festival has inextricably linked Puccini's name to his home city, where the composer was born on December 22, 1858, into a dynasty of musicians active in Lucca's musical history for over 150 years.

A different concert every night

The formula is simple and captivating: every evening at 7:00 PM, the evocative Church of San Giovanni e Reparata, located in the heart of Lucca's historic center, hosts an opera concert featuring two soloists accompanied by piano. No two evenings are the same: performers, programs, and repertoires change nightly, creating a calendar that has surpassed six thousand concerts over the years.

The weekly program is structured by theme: Mondays are dedicated to Puccini and Mozart, Tuesdays to Puccini's Women, Wednesdays to the Italian Opera Recital, Thursdays to Puccini and Verdi, Fridays to the Puccini Opera Recital, Saturdays to A Night at the Opera, and Sundays to Puccini and Neapolitan Songs. These performances are complemented by grand symphonic galas with orchestra and choir on special dates.

A cultural heritage for Lucca and Tuscany

In nearly twenty years of activity, the festival has welcomed hundreds of thousands of spectators from all over the world, involving dozens of professional singers and pianists who rotate on stage. The festival's productions have also been featured by international broadcasters, helping to spread the name of Lucca and Tuscany globally. For the many tourists who visit the Municipality of Lucca every year, attending a Puccini concert in the very church where young Giacomo began his musical journey is an authentic and unforgettable experience.

Where and when

From April to October, concerts are held every evening in the Church of San Giovanni e Reparata; during the winter months, the schedule continues with performances concentrated on specific evenings of the week at the Oratory of San Giuseppe in the Cathedral Museum.
