The Lunigiana Earth Market is the Slow Food market that transforms Piazza della Repubblica, in the heart of Pontremoli (Province of Massa-Carrara, Tuscany), into a showcase for local producers and flavors every first Sunday of the month. From 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM, the stalls are filled with Lunigiana products and local gastronomic traditions, creating a festive atmosphere that combines conscious shopping, taste, and food culture.
The project was born in 2025: it started in March as an experimental phase under the name "Verso" and was officially inaugurated in September, joining the international network of Slow Food Earth Markets and becoming a key reference point in Tuscany. It is coordinated by the Slow Food LuniApua Convivium in collaboration with the Municipality of Pontremoli and the Pro Loco of the Borgo del Piagnaro "Mani e Menti", following the principles of good, clean, and fair food for all.
Each edition brings together over twenty producers from Lunigiana and the surrounding areas of Tuscany, Liguria, and Emilia. Among the highlights are several Slow Food Presidia and numerous zero-kilometer delicacies:
The Earth Market is also a meeting place: Pontremoli hosts cooking shows dedicated to 'testi' cooking, tastings, workshops, and opportunities to engage with producers. On some Sundays, Piazza Duomo simultaneously hosts the Creativity Market with local artisans and artists, rounding off a perfect day for strolling through the medieval village of Pontremoli.
More than just a market, this initiative has become a landmark for those wishing to discover the authentic flavors of Lunigiana and support small local farms. It is an ideal visit to combine with exploring the historic center of Pontremoli, its bridges, churches, and the Piagnaro Castle.
In 2026, the Lunigiana Earth Market confirms its status as a fixed monthly event in Pontremoli: every first Sunday of the month, from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM, Piazza della Repubblica welcomes local producers. Confirmed dates include March 1, April 5, June 1, and July 5, with monthly continuation throughout the year.
Over twenty stalls featuring the six Slow Food Presidia of Lunigiana, Garfagnana, and Lucchesia, along with numerous zero-kilometer organic delicacies: testaroli and panigacci cooked in 'testi', local cheeses and cured meats (from Prosciutto Bazzone to biroldo), organic honey, jams, stone-ground flours, artisanal pasta, extra virgin olive oil, wine, spirits, and craft beers.
Each edition offers cooking shows dedicated to 'testi' cooking, tastings, workshops for families, and meetings with producers, in collaboration with the Slow Food LuniApua Convivium, the Municipality of Pontremoli, and the Pro Loco.
